DPS meter in the Eve Client

Hi All. In some PvP and PvE Youtube videos, I see what looks like a third party DPS meter displayed in the screen capture. It shows the DPS given and the DPS received in a rolling line chart. I can see a use for this as I learn some PvP skills, so my questions are: What is it really? Is it legal in E-Uni? If legal, recommendations on where to find and use one. I ask since I have no clue about it

Thanks

Re: DPS meter in the Eve Client

The EVE Online End User License Agreement has some wording about intercepting data from the system. If weapon damage done or received is considered user data, I can see how CCP may not like that being used by a third-party tool. If CCP has a new feature that shows real-time damage, I would love to have that running.

However, I do not know how the tools used those streams are gathering the information. I did a casual Google search for some DPS meters for EVE Online and my anti-virus software started to report some questionable reports on various sites. My anti-virus could be a bit paranoid and could be reporting a false positive.

TLDR: if you cannot get the information from an official API or in-game feature from CCP, caveat emptor (buyer beware).

Warm Regards,
Edhin

Re: DPS meter in the Eve Client

Thank you
I figured at with a big enough community, if it was a known thing I'd get an answer. I'm leery of Spyware so your answer pretty much confirmed that its to too prevalent and thus probably not a good thing. I always figured asking keeps me out of doing most dumb things :)

Re: DPS meter in the Eve Client

there is some tools out like https://github.com/ArtificialQualia/PyEveLiveDPS for example.

Most just use the combat logs and are compliant to the eula. I assume with some search in the official forums you probably get some more informations about that.

Re: DPS meter in the Eve Client

Never one to let a good topic just die, and to perhaps stratify somebodies
curiosity in the future, I did some research on my own question. This was
derived from the Game Log on my machine after letting NPCs shoot me and then
I "Returned the favor". Interesting dynamics

The Log file is in the following directory (on a Windows 10)OS
C:\Users\Tam_Easson\Documents\EVE\logs\Gamelogs\20200714_234233.txt
where the file name is the YearMonthDay_Time that you started the current
EVE session

Parsed Combat Log derived from Game Logs

The Game Log is opened when you launch Eve. It has a 5 line header with data
on the current Date and Time. It then includes information for what you are
doing in the game. These actions are timestamped
For accessing DPS Calculations, you parse each (usually the current) line
for a TimeStamp, event type ( your looking for (combat) as the event type)
and to extract DPS data, you look for the color tags in the line.

An example is:

[ 2020.06.27 20:08:15 ] (combat) <color=0xffcc0000><b>39</b> <color=0x77ffffff><font size=10>from</font> <b><color=0xffffffff>Sansha's Plague</b><font size=10><color=0x77ffffff> - Smashes

where the time stamp is obvious and DPS events are associated with (combat) when
you parse the string

There can be many things going on, for for DPS received ( you're getting shot at),
the information you are interested in starts with:

<color=0xffcc0000><b> followed by a number then followed by </b> The number is the DPS
The rest of the line discusses who and text for how bad.

To determine your DPS against the target you are firing at, you look for a
different color after the (combat) tag

<color=0xff00ffff><b> followed by a number for DPS you are applying

If you are Nuetting, you can also recover that, the Color is
<color=0xff7fffff><b>100 GJ
and is followed by the GJ level your Nuet is sucking from it's target

There may be more information in the file, but I just stuck with the basics
