Comms: EVE University Public Mumble server for comms, EVE University Discord for presentation
Overview
This is a two-part practical class, meaning that at least some of it takes place out in space. The first part will be theory; the second part will be practice. The two parts take place separately, on different dates, and will occur multiple times so you'll have a chance to repeat any section you missed.
You can attend either or both sessions; they're designed independently.
Part I: Tackling Theory
To participate in this part, you just need to be on Mumble and Discord and don't need anything special. We'll cover:
- Tackling as dialectic: the essential truths of spaceship explosions
- Control the engagement
- Neutralize speed advantages
- Time is survival
- Fit to maximize "alive time": maximizing your survivability with tank, traversal, speed, and signature radius
- Tank: withstanding direct damage
- Traversal: outrunning turrets and threats
- Speed: evading hostiles when outmatched
- Signature radius: when they go big, you go small
- Initial engagements
- big, slow things: prioritize traversal
- fast, spicy things: prioritize positioning
- fast, tiny things: prioritize acquisition
- Holding the field
- Spreading your tackle
- Bouncing
- Further reading: Manual piloting, anti-kiting, feathering
FC: Selara Trondinvale
Staging: in nullsec in PC9-AY, so be in a clean clone
To participate in this part, you need a ship that conforms to the Practical Requirements below, in addition to being on Mumble.
We'll cover:
- Preflight checklist: clean clone, ship fittings, bookmarks
- Exercise 0: Setting up your overview
- Exercise 1: Assessing guns
- Exercise 2: Approaching your target with high traversal
- Exercise 3: Tackling with your warp disruptor
- Exercise 4: Landing well-positioned tackle
You don't need a ship to participate in the theory session.
To participate in the practical session, you need to have a ship that:
- is frigate-sized
- has a role bonus for tackling (the T1 frigates with this bonus are the Atron, Executioner, Slasher, and Condor)
- has a fit with midslots that include all three of the following: any 5MN Microwarpdrive, any Warp Disruptor (note: a Warp Disruptor, not a Warp Scrambler!), and any Stasis Webifier
- has any Warp Scrambler in your cargo bay
- can fly 3,000 m/s or faster with its MWD activated (but not overheated)
- can run the capacitor for at least 45 seconds with your MWD and Warp Disruptor activated
Tips:
- If you can't fly 3,000 m/s, consider training your Navigation (+5% to base speed per level) and Acceleration Control (+5% to AB and MWD bonus per level) skills.
- If you can't maintain capacitor for 45 seconds, consider training your Capacitor Management (+5% to capacitor capacity per level) and Capacitor Systems Operation (-5% to capacitor recharge time per level) skills.
