[AAR] Ah! It's Atrons!!

Post by Psychotic Fickity »

Purpose: So, with this fleet, I was testing out how great Atrons are, vrs other frigate fleets I have lead and or been on. I love them. It was fun!
I was also testing out a fit I had put together. It was amazing.
It also let people who had not done 2ic before, be 2ic.
It also gave newer members the opportunity to pair up with experienced scouts to learn how to do it.

Overall evaluation
  • (Positive stuff)
-It was a great way to try out a new idea.
    - Tho we got laughed at for being in Atrons, we got a good amount of engagements.
-The group want this to be a more regular thing.
-When the chips were down the 2ic and 3ic did great.
-We regrouped when we got strung out, so that we avoided being picked off as much as we could of been.
    - It was a good idea to avoid gate engagements unless they were suspect and to only engage at plex.
    - We didnt back down from many engagements at all.

    (Negative stuff)
-We need to get more atrons at various places in low sec.
    -Have to watch positioning.
    - Have to get people to watch their cloaking ( as in not uncloak unless i say to).
    - Need to watch positioning in plex
-might want to look into logi frigs for next fleet?

^^This. I would definitely love to do it again.

The Atron's performed way better than I expected: the doctrine fit is cap-stable for me running all modules including the active repair module. I found this useful more than once during the fleet and I believe that I didn't lose the ship because of it. Only downside was keeping up with/trying to catch some of the flashy ships that had mwd fits.

Was a ton of fun. Thanks Psychotic!

This fleet had great content, many engagements and we did well most of the time.

I think AB atrons are not a good fit, though. Most of the time (I had a custom MWD fit) I was holding tackle after scouts and the rest of the group could not apply dps unless someone added a web on the target. The Fednavy comet that escaped us had all the time to deal with the first tackle before the rest had secondary point.

The atrons are fast, let us embrace their nature and fit them for fast swarming tactics.
MWD is essential, some webs might help and we can pin an enemy down in place, while those who are damaged can get out of range and come back within seconds.

Will be willing to experiment with this fleet comp again though, but I think logi will just slow us down.

The fleet was good and we had lots of fun, which is what matters :)

Agreed, as we needed more speed: more than once.
Spoiler
[Atron, Ah it's Atrons! (MWD Adjustments)]
Damage Control I
Small 'Accommodation' Vestment Reconstructer I
'Refuge' Adaptive Nano Plating I

X5 Enduring Stasis Webifier
J5b Enduring Warp Scrambler
5MN Y-T8 Compact Microwarpdrive

Small Knave Scoped Energy Nosferatu
Modal Light Ion Particle Accelerator I
Modal Light Ion Particle Accelerator I
Modal Light Ion Particle Accelerator I

Small Auxiliary Nano Pump I
Small Ancillary Current Router I
Small Ancillary Current Router I

Federation Navy Antimatter Charge S x1360
Nanite Repair Paste x5
Some adjustments I made just playing around with this idea. Replaces the AB for a MWD, replaces the IFFA DCU (because 4million isk is too much for such a small amount of hp gain), replaces polycarbon engine housing with another current router for cap-stability, Faction Ammo, & some repair paste for overheats. Totals into around 5.5million isk Jita price for the whole fit. I tested on an alt with approx 1.3mil sp & for me, it is cap-stable with all modules running except for the repair module: which can be pulsed. Totally newbro friendly. I'm showing 2464ehp on the original fit and 2419ehp on my modified fit, so a bit of hp loss and a bit of align/inertia loss for a ton of sub-warp speed/velocity gain.

What do we think? How to make it even better?

Yes, putting on a mwd would give you more speed- but makes you more vulnerable to warp scrams.. The ships i have up are 5.8 mils because i bought the other module before the price spike. Which is why they are fit that way.

Just given the chat about MWD Atrons - this idea (a swarm of super fast, high damage MWD Blaster Atrons) is a really old (and really effective!) idea in Eve. Brave Newbies used to call their fleets “Derpatrons”.

The Uni has run them a lot as well, and they’ve always been really fun fleets. Adrien Claremont did a write up on the doctrine for the FCC a while ago as well.

https://wiki.eveuniversity.org/Derpatrons

The big difference to what you’re trying to do here is the lack of a self-rep module. There are a few very good reasons for why Derpatron fleets (and fleet fits generally) don’t usually use self-reps, but I would say if you DO want to use a repper, at least ensure you have a big enough Hull tank buffer to keep you alive while the reps cycle.

Anyway, looks a fun fleet! Hope I catch this one next time it goes out!
