[AAR] Moving Out, Huh?

Post by Sone Eto »

Friends,

Gather round while I tell this cloaky tale of mystery, intrigue, ignorance, and good times. So there we were, wandering the wormholes seeking what Bob provides us as is the tradition of the WHC. A relic site here, an Imicus gank there, scanning always scanning. We noticed some traffic between two of the holes in our chain (and it is OUR chain, mind you): Eggs and 2 E1. Mithlug Ibruin took up a cloaky guard position inside 2 E1 on the wormhole to Eggs to monitor the traffic while I feebly tried to watch the other connections in 2 E1 to determine where these convoys were originating. It turned out that they were coming from INSIDE THE HOLE at a Fortizar. After watching an Occator, Rook, and Orca leave the hole; we theorized that they were moving out but still weren't sure. The enemy's intentions are not so easily deciphered out here in spooky space.

WHC Warriors Involved
Sone Eto - Flycatcher - FC/Bubbler
Mithlug Ibruin - Stratios - Initial Scout/DPS
marlinspike von Crendraven - Stratios - DPS
Tori Moliko - Nemesis - Bouncing Scout/DPS
Oh' Leeador - Loki - Picket Scout/DPS/Consigliere

We rushed back to our home system of Innuendo, former home of the once-legendary logistics pornographer Urban Oxide, sent out a light ping to gather some troops, and reshipped into a Flycatcher and a Stratios; we were later joined by a second Stratios and a Nemesis. Around this time, resident guy-that-knows-what-he's-doing Oh' Leeador, joined us in a Loki and relieved Mithlug from his watch over the connection between Eggs and 2 E1. By now, we knew the corp, some of the suspects involved, and which structure they'd be warping to, so he watched from the Eggs side. Meanwhile, I set the bubbler up 400km off the Fortizar inline with the wormhole and cloaked. Our two Stratios and bomber warped to me from the hole at 20km ensure that'd they be in right on top of anything that warped from the hole to the Fortizar and got caught (edge of the bubble).

We watched. waited. considered going home. But the fine warriors of the WHC endured through boredom, bad jokes, worse memes, and a strict no-bio-breaks policy. Around this time, we were introduced to a new friend: Planet Kiler. A thinly-veiled reference to the myth, the legend, the guy that once had his name spoken by Grath Telkin (https://youtu.be/mIG1RFXKbJg?t=992): Planetkiller Wehrwolf. Our own planet killer was not so infamous but no less entertaining. We watched as he bounced his Sabre back and forth between Eggs, his safes, and his Fortizar. We seemed to have been caught on dscan or maybe even grid by him as we quickly funneled ships in...THE NATIVES WERE NERVOUS.

We watched them undock two rolling battleships and a Phobos and warp to hole. I didn't decloak and bubble up because the bubble needs to be up before they warp; it would tip our hand. This risked getting rolled in but we had a feeling that this was a move-op and risked it. Once our eyes confirmed they had jumped into Eggs, warped off, and were now coming back in capsules; it was crystal clear that they were moving out. Worse than that, THE HOLE HAD GONE SHRINK; they won't be making many more runs, we better figure out this trap fast. Our cloakies quickly spread to get eyes on both the Fortizar and both sides of the hole (off dscan from the Fortizar). Their capsules warped back to the Fortizar, I watched....watched...all docked! DECLOAK WARP TO THE HOLE AT 100KM! GO GO GO. Using this narrow time window, I decloaked my Flycatcher, warped at range to the Eggs hole, and cloaked up. Our Fortizar cloaky announced that Planet Kiler had undocked a Tempest.

I decloaked and bubbled up, our hunters that weren't on grid, warped in...Tempest on D! Stratios' and bombers decloaked, Loki jumped in, I burned for the hole (no weapons could fit on my bubbler). Stratios called scram, drones out; oh no smart bombs! Mithlug's Strat got down to 25% armor but he continued to fight. Blood, debris, and nanites clouded the battlefield as the fight raged on. TEMPEST DOWN.

ISK Destroyed: 183,500,688.36
ISK Lost: 0.00

Lessons Learned
- After bubbling while the Tempest was in warp, should have burned toward the Fortizar and thrown a second overlapping bubble.
- Should have pre-positioned off the hole rather than the Fortizar from the beginning...although the wait for dock, go go go! was fun.
- Have your Stratios' decloak once he enters warp to kill the targeting delay.
- Get the Loki in sooner during setup, although it was nice to have the Eggs side monitored for reinforcements/3rd parties.
- Be more careful getting more cloakies into system, we spooked em but held patiently until they got comfortable again.
