Scoped version for more range, nothing else you can change here really.
Range is your tank, not.. tank tank. While painters aren't that cool at warping in and our(duration of the effect), it's still a nice amplifier I guess.

100% on Gang Warfare stat on zkillboard is very telling.

Target Painting

With the amount of CPU left on these fits there is no reason to use the Peripheral (-4 tf) version of Painters.
We have Phased Scoped for more range (+3000 m Optimal, +7500m Falloff) and Parallel for reduced cap cost (-4 GJ / cycle).

The benefits scale with skill level:
  • Activation Cost:
    • Target Painting (5% reduction per level)
  • Effectiveness Falloff:
    • Frequency Modulation (10% bonus per level)
  • Optimal Range:
    • Long Distance Jamming (10% bonus per level)
    • Minmatar Frigate (10% bonus per level)
  • Signature Radius Modifier:
    • Signature Focusing (5% bonus per level)
    • Minmatar Frigate (7.5% bonus per level)

Alpha Clone Fits

However Alpha Clones are only able to train:
  • Target Painting I
    • 5% reduction in Activation Cost
  • Minmatar Frigate IV
    • 40% bonus to Optimal Range
    • 30% bonus to Signature Radius Modifier
Because they cannot train more than one level of Target Painting my suggestion for Alpha clone focused fits is to switch to 1MN Monopropellant Afterburner and/or use Parallel Enduring Target Painter for fights at larger scale for longer cap life.

Below are my suggested variations on the fits mentioned above.

This is pretty much the only fit I have saved for a vigil. Cheap, faster, rigs compliment the rest.
Paints to 97km, targeting to 102km.

Alpha lowskill fit. Why SSE do you say? When they are one of the most useless items in the game? Well, to fit an MSE you need a power core, if you do that you take away the sig amp, which means lower targeting range (by almost 20km), which means they are getting too close and might die. They are much better learning how to fly an ewar ship at range than they are up close.

The fits I've found were mostly based off popular fits (losses) on zkillboard and I got the sense that they did not expect to apply from enemy's engagement range. I assumed that with lowsec fights, going in and out of plexes, getting an advantage on range was not always possible so I came up with the short range versions from the zkillboard losses I saw. Which is also why I didn't bother to plug the EM hole on the long range fits and instead opted for getting the optimals high.

Obviously, large scale combat is something I've not had any experience with but you have. I see the fits you've (White) suggested sport slightly more tank and less optimal range. Do you find ships like this applying from afar? Have you found yourself in a position to prioritize painters applying from range on field over other ships?
