Personally I would tend to be a bit cautious about generally recommending Halada's Mining Guide to new Unistas. While there are no downright errors in there that I have found, at least some of his information is peculiarly irrelevant to players new to the game and thus low in skillpoints and corporation standings. Examples:
  • He doesn't in general appear to consider the option of being in a large corporation, which is friendly and helpful toward the new miner. His 'career advice' is largely targeted at the solo miner in a NPC or PvP corporation. At least that is how I read his advice anyway.
  • His fitting advice was of little value to me with low SP. I cannot at this time fit a MLU on my Retriever no matter what I do. An attempt at training for that tiny upgrade would just serve to needlessly delay the inevitable arrival of The Hulk(TM) in my hangar, which would be a vastly superior upgrade to my mining efficiency.
  • No advice on suicide gankers and can flippers. Guess they are not a problem where Halada is mining these days. His uber expensive faction fit Hulk tank deserves a generous 'lulz' for that reason alone, as tanking BS rat spawns is the least of your worries as a new hulk owner.
  • Could be wrong, but I don't think he mentions the issue of logistics for the new player. IE. getting your precious ore hauled around, once it has been mined. Apparently this is not an issue before you get into a Rorqual and 0.0 mining.
  • The section on refining is nice but again the reader is supposed to be able to get (or already have) high corporation standings, something a new Uni member is unlikely to have. We do the cooperative refining thing as part of our mining fleets instead.
  • Unless you are really poor, then it isn't really worth it to train for and mine in a mining frigate IMHO. (Yes, I know I did that a fair bit...) As a new member of the Uni you are in my view much better off training and saving your ISKies for a nice little Industrial of your choice, and then jump in as hauler for the Uni mining fleets as and when they happen. Then train straight for either a cruiser mining ship or the Retriever if you decide to get serious about mining.
There are probably more points like these to be found, should have taken notes the last time I read the guide. The point I'm trying to make is that it may be worth writing at least some form of 'new Uni miner strategy guide' in text form, in addition to the Uni mining fleet op document. I will leave it to others to decide whether a mining class with an Uni focus is needed. Given the cooperative manner in which the Uni frequently kill 'roids my personal opinion is they might quite well be worth having in a setting, where efficiency and ISK are not the primary objectives. Given the subject matter such a class wouldn't have to be either long or complicated in scope.

I have recently created 2 new alts. One on an existing account (instant hauler amarr alt), and a 'power of 2' industrialist.
My industrialist more or less finished the 10 tutorial missions, and then went from Lonetrek to Domain to do missions for a Ishukone agent. While the rats in the belts is a b!tch to fight in a bantam, it's just something I'll deal with for the time being. I started out gathering a good deal of kernite from the 8/10 tutorial mission I believe, and with very little more mining, I had the 700-800k required for my hauler alt.
With this hauler alt, and my industrialt, I will do 5000 m3 every half hour - and then warp off to load fighting modules onto my bantam. :( Yes. You heard right.
Anyway, with a little training, and a little mining, I will very quickly find myself in an osprey, and I don't really need much more money. Maybe another 2*30 minutes of mining. (2*miner 1 on the bantam, and 1 on the bestower :P)

Whoa. Wall of text, considering the point I was trying to make. I mined in a frigate, to gather 700-800K, after which I could pay off a hauler alt (on another account naturally), and mine safely to can.

The whole point of my struggling, is that when I started playing EVE on my first character, I had everything I wanted. The mate who lured me in, gave me what I needed or just wanted.
I have purchased this new alt a +3 set, but other than that, he has (Even down to the cybernetics skill. :P) - and will - make his own way.

Now,
to my reason for coming to this thread, a request!
I'd like a class on shield tanking, as we have recently had a (good) one on armor tanking. I would do this class myself, but I'm fairly certain I need more knowledge in the field.
I just go with the flow, and do the "if it ain't broken, don't fix it" thing. Now I want to learn more. :)
Please, and, thanks in advance.

Hi everyone o7

First post here.

I want it all. I want y'all to drop some serious knowledge on me here. I've been flirting with EVE for almost 2 years, but everytime I ditch because I can't ever find a good corp. I hope I've found a home with EVE-U. Everyone has been great.

I'd attend classes for all of these topics:

Low-sec operations
Ship-fitting
Trading
Industry/Mining
0.0 basics
Fleet management/function/PvP
Scouting

SE1001 : Social Engineering in E.V.E : How to get an edge in Combat & Trading

...I would dig this class :D

I would like to request a scouting and intel class.

If possible to cover these topics from the perspectives of the scouts and intel, and from the perspective of a FC.

I'd like to know what scouts and intel should be doing from their own point of view and how they go about it most effectively (will be flying T2 frigs in 10 days or so and thinking about covops).

But I'd also like to know as a FC how I should go about using, communicating with, and co-ordinating with intel most effectively; as well as the various possible uses of scouts in fleets.

I've got some questions for apocrypha, not sure if they warrant a whole class but they seem like big deals and I haven't heard many details yet so:

new scan probes? (http://www.eve-ivy.com/forum/viewtopic. ... nner+probe)

wormholes?

Most of the Apocrypha stuff is explained on the official website in developer blogs http://www.eveonline.com/ingameboard.as ... nelID=3512

wormholes - http://www.eveonline.com/devblog.asp?a=blog&bid=644

new fitting screen - http://www.eveonline.com/devblog.asp?a=blog&bid=628

new player experience - http://www.eveonline.com/devblog.asp?a=blog&bid=618

skill queue - http://www.eveonline.com/devblog.asp?a=blog&bid=621

tech 3 cruisers - http://www.eveonline.com/devblog.asp?a=blog&bid=629

There are a lot more, one on scanning too but I cant find it at the moment.

I would like to see a science/invention/industry (not mining related) class. That is one portion of eve that I have no idea WTH is going on ...

I can't believe the social relations realm of EvE is totally being ignored by the E-Uni. How about a class about how to maintain long term relationships with those finicky exotic dancer types? Perhaps another class on "Hairstyles and You: the Hair dos and don'ts of diplomacy."

Dealing with disconnects and desyncs

Hi there,

I would really like to attend a class where someon explains about dealing with disconnects and desyncs. How do I recognize a desync, what to do to avoid it and in case it happens in a large fleet (like the POS battle against the IDLE POS yesterday) how to get back into the action.

Cheers,
Boran

A sniper 101 class would be interesting
I'm sure there is more to sniping than long skill learning time and expensive losses
