I got most of this figured out by now but I think it could be very useful to have a "getting around safe in Eve" thing. I see basic questions in the chat about the autopilot regularly for example. Like the differences between high/low/null, suicide ganking, a sub 2 second sunesis fit, mwd cloak trick etc. Would be cool and I think help new players a lot since getting ganked sucks and a lot of this isn't super easy to figure out and get comfortable with.

Or does this exist already and I just missed it?

There are a couple of classes of those theme, in the CORE class library - Introduction to Safe Travel, and Introduction to Player Threats.

Both are due for an update - and therefore neither are listed on the Wiki classes page yet - but the teaching department is working through the CORE class content, and we will hopefully see those reintroduced soon(tm).

If we could get an Intro to Fitting session evening EVE time that would be great!

I saw that Fonggar Akiga gave an Intro to Fitting class early October (early afternoon EVE time) and is giving another one (early AM EVE time) in November. Just putting the evening EVE time idea out there for those of us that can't make it to the scheduled one for timezone reasons. :D

Also, it would be great to have "CORE" classes like this have a repeating schedule like Intro to D-Scan does. Of course I understand that this is based on teachers' availabilities and there's RL. Perhaps the staff could suggest date/time slots on a monthly basis with specific topics and for different timezones. That could lift the burden of potential teachers having to look for appropriate dates, times, and topics themselves and they can just look at that planning and decide what they can fit in their schedule. I'm happy to work this proposal out if the staff thinks it's a good idea.

Teaching Dept has a constant desire for more CORE classes, in more time zones - this isn’t something we don’t already propose.

Marek (teaching manager) has been monthly putting a call out in the #teaching-general channel on Discord, asking for more classes, just as you proposed.

Unfortunately it does come down to a teacher setting that class up, in the end - and there’s no question a teacher is going to schedule in a time they can teach. The fitting class coming up at 0200 eve time for example - is a great time of day, for North America.

To all of you reading this - yes, we want YOU to teach! What do you have experience with and feel comfortable taking a pre-made deck and turning it into a class you can present to Unistas wanting to learn? Head on over to #teaching-general, and look at the classes we are asking for in November (or whatever month you may be looking at this post!).

E-Uni: Class(es) suggestion

Post by Komandir Kobry »

Good morning Students and Faculty,

Wanted to throw an idea / suggestion if I may be so bold... (see what i did there.) :D

I think it might be nice if someone were willing to do a short series of
lessons on the basic but "minimally necessary" tools and widgets for
QoL and navigation etc. (Quality of Life)

You know, the stuff you old timers take for granted.

I have had the good fortune of bumping into a few really good mentors and communicators
so far. (i won't call you out personally because I would inevitably miss someone and step in the poo)

That said; I've already gotten really good 1:1 lessons in the EveMarketer, the Overview screen
and how to do a few basic navigation things (within the tools, not the map)

Here are a few things I think would make great one-shot lessons, if someone
was willing to run them.

Suggested / Proposed Curriculum
============================================================
*how to plan custom routes and import them (how to avoid nscls/wh)
*basic steps on how to import / export fits and shop for mods
*protips and ways to reduce your cost or accelerate training
*recommended high-end trainings that you should do as soon as you can
*how to manage the Overview during recon <when to switch presets>
*managing the overview during combat <who's watching what>
*locating friends / fellow students on the Galactic map
***sorting by corp members, etc. basic navigation of the Universe Map

***maybe a whole Specialist Session(s) or "Master Class" on the following::

I. EveMarketer and negotiating to maximize your ISK
II. GateCheck and why it should be in your pre-flight plan
III. Eve Workbench for Power Users
IV. Mumble for the absolute rookie
VI. Mumble for Power Users

I am sure I'm missing things, and some of this falls into the realm of "RTFM"
but the difference between being on Eve or in Uni for 10 days and 60 or 90 days
is enormous. I know many of you have your own "bag of tricks" or tips on how
you speed things along. Whether that be certain tips or tricks in using the map
or perhaps ways you manage and maintain your chat channels; I think much of
this tribal knowledge tends to get lost over time because newbies don't know
what they don't know. So, you don't know what to ask !

Some of this would really better be delivered over Discord / Mumble with screen sharing
but there are also lightweight stream apps that can be used to demonstrate some
of the topics / techniques. I am also happy to share what little I have picked up, because I do have
a background in coaching / mentoring. But, much of the above is better delivered by someone
who's been doing this a long time.

Thanks in advance for any feedback !

What I feel is really missing form EVE classes is integral to EVE - Sovereignty.

As someone who'd someday like to operate null sec structures and participate in sovereignty battles, it would be great if we could have a class on this topic (structures too).

I feel like this is the only part of EVE that cannot be actively practiced in any of the campuses, therefore it's impossible to learn it without classes.
I know E-UNI doesn't want to claim sovereign space, but that only makes it harder to learn this topic before leaving. No way I could just up and try to claim some space for myself without knowing the intricacies!

I would suggest following topics in the class:
  • How sovereignty works - structure types
  • Claiming sovereignty - capturing and placing structures
  • How structures work
  • Entosis
  • System modifiers (bonuses) and levels
  • Vulnerability windows

There was a sov-null fireside chat a couple months ago, with several members of sov-null corps coming in as guests. Teaching department is looking if there are any recordings and perhaps to organize another one.

Would love to attend a class regarding Uni overview set-up with some practical tips and tricks on how to best utilize the different settings. I still feel lost with my overview at times. Thanks!

I also second the idea of a leadership class, providing in game information about what you need to know, as well as how corp leaders fc's operate, how to communicate clearly, what 3rd party tools do they use etc and how someone can start out.

A how large corps work class would be interesting, how an alliance becomes greater than the sum of its parts, organisation structure, how to implement safe guards and checks.

lastly, while maybe not lessons in the strict sense but speakers from the corp to come on share their experiences and introduce themselves with perhaps a Q&A section in, I think it would be a great resource as well as bring together the community.

Not to Quote Komandir Kobry's entire text but it seems he has hit on some classes which are very needed, especially in wartime and joining fleets.

IV. Mumble for the absolute rookie
VI. Mumble for Power Users

It seems every fleet 10 minutes is dedicated to setting up a whisper key. This should be covered in class(s) for proper Mumble setup and use.

Just my humble opinion to make everyone a little better at participating in fleets and for when newer players move on to more advanced areas of gameplay.

I think a class on mumble may be a bit too narrow in scope for a developed class, where we generally aim for 45-90 minutes of content.

That doesn’t mean there aren’t resources outside of a formal class:

- Many times before a strat op, Unistas take it upon themselves to hold a working session, announced on Discord, to help configure things like mumble. I very much encourage this practice - any Unista should feel free to do this. With enough lead time, you can even talk to me and we can arrange rights to stream in a Discord classroom.

- Orientation holds a Q&A periodically that covered questions on Uni services.

- Mentees can talk to mentors about Uni services like Mumble

- Discussion in campus channels ahead of time to get people squared away

- Last mentioned, but foremost to the point : The longer form up times before strat Ops is there very much to help new players get oriented. By the very nature of our corp, we always have new people coming in, so there will always be a need to explain, regardless of other avenues to learn this matter. FC team has even started assigning people specifically to the role of helping new players out!

This may have already been suggested, and/or may already exist...

I would like to have a Class on implants and remapping, the benefits of certain setups.

Also why Clones are used

Thanks

I'd be interested in a class coverings the various alts one might want to have (e.g. hauler alt, faction warfare alt, industry stuff, etc).

Thanks!

Honestly thats a tough one. It simply depends too much on what you want to do in the game.

- A Hauler alt is generally a good advice and anyone should have one.
- market trading alt
- a faction warfare alt if you want the LP or some solo/small gank pvp
- industry alts (multiples) depending on your industry footprint (mining, production, science...)
- Jump freighter alt if you do jump freighters
- cyno alts to move your jump freighter/capitals

PVP Alts depending on your multiboxing choices:
- interdictor alt(s)
- boosting alt for command ships if
- capital poilt(s) if you do those

Some of these roles can be combined on individual toons. It also all depends on how many accounts you want to run, how many alpha/omega. etc.

Feel free to message me on discord and I can 'show' you my personal alt setup and tell you about some that I know.
