This class covers some very basic PvP concepts, and how they interact to shape the space of PvP. Unlike many of our classes which introduce one defined set of game mechanics, this class pulls together mechanics from different categories.
If you've never been involved in PvP or you've only ever flown in fleets anchored on an FC rather than flying your ship independently, this class will help you begin to start reading the shapes and ranges of the 'grid' that experienced PvPers talk about; if you've dabbled in PvP but not extensively, it might help to explain some of what you've experienced, and it might help prepare you for smaller gang fights with more pilot responsibility.
Nothing can replace experience, but this class aims to give you better shapes into which to sort PvP experience as you get it. We will also briefly discuss ways to get more PvP in, including Uni fleets and 'NPSI' roams.
Instructor: Uryence
When: Tuesday 17 May, 19:00 EVE Time
Where: Mumble (audio) and Discord (slides, gameplay streaming); you will need to use both to get the full class
Note that due to changes in our auth system, this will be on the general, normal Uni Mumble, not the old public server!
Duration: 2 hours scheduled; probably less than this, depending on the Q&A—you won't have to listen to me drone on for 120 minutes!
This class covers the following topics:
- Why PvP?
- Movement
- Tackle
- Tactical space / 'grid shape'
- Weapons timer
- Routes into PvP
- Q&A
- Mumble registration and access: make sure you have Mumble sorted out and operational well before the class begins. Use this page for set-up.
- Access to the EVE Uni Discord (slide presentation will occur in a Discord classroom, and Discord will be the main channel for text questions)
This class is a lecture, delivered in Mumble, with the slides and streaming gameplay delivered on the EVE University Discord and questions taken in the relevant Discord channel. There is no practical component or need to undock. We recommend not doing anything risky or attention-intensive in-game while listening!
OPTIONAL preparation:
You can attend this class with absolutely zero preparation and it should still be useful. But its content might synergise well with:
- the CORE Introduction to Weapon Systems class, which you can catch on 8 May; see also the slide deck for IWS, linked on its wiki page
- the new EVE Academy info on combat mechanics
- Yto's basics of tackle video
- Yto's tackle modules discussion
- the CORE Introduction to Fleets class; if you can't catch this being taught, you can review the slide deck linked here
