Interceptor?

Looking to add flying an Interceptor to my skill set, with the intention of being a second, fast tackle for a Uni fleet and eventually a scout.

Is there a preference out there as to which Interceptor? I'm failry equally skilled into all the racial frigates, armor, shield.

Regards,
Micah

Re: Interceptor?

This is a very common question and can invoke some passionate responses.

For Interceptors for fleet tackle, there's really only two options, in the conventional sense.

1) Malediction. Speed, rockets are good against drones that chase you, good overall. Light active tank with the SAAR is mostly for light damage and fixing up after 2ndry tackle arrives. You can run LMLs if you prefer -- it doesn't really matter, the guns are mostly a bonus.

  Code:

[Malediction, Malediction - Armor MWD Rockets Standard]

Damage Control II
Nanofiber Internal Structure II
Dark Blood Adaptive Nano Plating
Small Ancillary Armor Repairer, Nanite Repair Paste

5MN Quad LiF Restrained Microwarpdrive
Warp Scrambler II
Warp Disruptor II

Rocket Launcher II, Caldari Navy Mjolnir Rocket
Rocket Launcher II, Caldari Navy Mjolnir Rocket
Rocket Launcher II, Caldari Navy Mjolnir Rocket

Small Ionic Field Projector II
Small Polycarbon Engine Housing II

If you use a faction warp disruptor, the ionic rig is even more important, especially if you fly with good skirmish links. Dark Blood ANPs are a bit of a hit or miss -- if you're allergic to their price tag, use a Meta 4 ANP.

2) Stiletto. The Slasher is the T1 version of this, and, the best. Buffer stands up better to an initial whack before your speed kicks in. Couple different versions of this: some use a NOS which can be good for holding scram.

  Code:
[Stiletto, Stiletto - Shield MWD AutoCannons 125mm Standard]

Damage Control II
Overdrive Injector System II
Nanofiber Internal Structure II

5MN Quad LiF Restrained Microwarpdrive
Warp Disruptor II
Warp Scrambler II
Medium Azeotropic Restrained Shield Extender

125mm Gatling AutoCannon II, Republic Fleet EMP S
125mm Gatling AutoCannon II, Republic Fleet EMP S
Core Probe Launcher I, Core Scanner Probe I /OFFLINE

Small Ionic Field Projector I
Small Ancillary Current Router I

The NOS version. Not as fast but some people like the NOS. You'll find out as you do it more.
  Code:
[Stiletto, Stiletto - Shield MWD AutoCannons 125mm NOS]

Damage Control II
Micro Auxiliary Power Core I
Nanofiber Internal Structure II

5MN Quad LiF Restrained Microwarpdrive
Warp Disruptor II
Faint Epsilon Scoped Warp Scrambler
Medium Azeotropic Restrained Shield Extender

Small Ghoul Compact Energy Nosferatu
125mm Gatling AutoCannon II, Republic Fleet EMP S
125mm Gatling AutoCannon II, Republic Fleet EMP S

Small Ionic Field Projector II
Small Polycarbon Engine Housing II

3) Crow and Ares. The Ares have good utility for "other interceptor stuff" like sub-2sec aligning cyno carrying stuff but is inferior to the first two. The Crow -- let's just stop there and go no further.

4) The Slasher has become my favorite utility ship for tackle, travel and a quick hop to pick up some dual light pulse laser IIs or something. I used to like the Atron for that stuff but the Slasher...is...better. Here's my basic fit, which simply runs dual nanos for travel when it's not combat fit. Carries a combat refit, tackle refit, emergency scanning refit, afterburner etc. Warp Disruptor II in place of the web if you're using it for tackle.

  Code:
[Slasher, Slasher - Shield MWD AutoCannon 125mm Mk1 Standard]

Damage Control II
Nanofiber Internal Structure II

5MN Quad LiF Restrained Microwarpdrive
Faint Epsilon Scoped Warp Scrambler
Fleeting Compact Stasis Webifier
Medium Azeotropic Restrained Shield Extender

Small Ghoul Compact Energy Nosferatu
125mm Gatling AutoCannon II, Republic Fleet EMP S
125mm Gatling AutoCannon II, Republic Fleet EMP S
125mm Gatling AutoCannon II, Republic Fleet EMP S

Small Ancillary Current Router I
Small Polycarbon Engine Housing I
Small Anti-EM Screen Reinforcer I

Re: Interceptor?

I've moved this topic out of the Fittings Discussion forum as it is not pertaining to fits. The Q&A forum should serve you better.

AFAIK Malediction has been an interceptor of choice for fleets because of a combination of its speed, its fitting layout and its fitting resources. I've seen people do remarkable things with the Malediction and in both armor and shield fits.

#InterceptorLifetimesMatter but you'd be hard pressed to find another fleet interceptor that matches the Malediction at that role without having to resort to expensive modules.

Re: Interceptor?

This is good information. I've only ever flown an Ares - but this really makes me want to train towards a Malediction.

Re: Interceptor?

just to throw my 2p

cepters really need Lv4 minimum, as with most things worth flying

but if you plan on using them a lot its one of the ships you'll notice a bigger impact of Lv5 skill, sig reduction and speed is whats keeping you alive till the girls and boys get there.

still train the support skilss and get out there practicing and having fun at Lv4 but once you have the other bits 5 is well worth the extra queue

Re: Interceptor?

The fits that K950 linked for the malediction are servicable, but overtanked for some purposes and not quite as fast for true speedtanking. The "default" fleet malediction fit is as follows:

  Code:
[Malediction, Malediction]
Damage Control II
Small Ancillary Armor Repairer
Nanofiber Internal Structure II
Overdrive Injector System II

Warp Scrambler II
5MN Quad LiF Restrained Microwarpdrive
Warp Disruptor II

Core Probe Launcher II
125mm Gatling AutoCannon II
125mm Gatling AutoCannon II

Small Polycarbon Engine Housing II
Small Hyperspatial Velocity Optimizer II

Sisters Core Scanner Probe x16
Barrage S x308
Republic Fleet EMP S x400
Nanite Repair Paste x39

A more speed-tank oriented fit might look like this (note the hyperspatial rig for catching ratters):

  Code:
[Malediction, gatt (overdrive)]
Damage Control II
Overdrive Injector System II
Nanofiber Internal Structure II
Overdrive Injector System II

Warp Scrambler II
5MN Quad LiF Restrained Microwarpdrive
Warp Disruptor II

Core Probe Launcher II
125mm Gatling AutoCannon II
125mm Gatling AutoCannon II

Small Polycarbon Engine Housing II
Small Hyperspatial Velocity Optimizer II

Sisters Core Scanner Probe x16
Barrage S x308
Republic Fleet EMP S x400
Nanite Repair Paste x39

An important aspect of these fits is the use of small autocannons in the highs (despite the lack of any bonus) to free up fitting space for more important things (points, scrams, core probe launchers, etc). Having a probe launcher is often surprisingly useful, particularly in null.

Re: Interceptor?

Thank you all. Very good information here.

I have some Pyfa work, and training, to do.
