### A Post about the new Pirate FOBs

Hi there,

I went on a totally unexpected venture today with a Spectre Fleet FC and compiled a report on my findings on the new Pirate Forward Observation Bases. Report is here:

Saanguinee was on one of the first FOBs and can give his side if he find a moment.

I should have checked this post before attempting FOB

The FOBs have been updated as part of a recent update. Among other things, they're no longer >40 AU away from the general cluster, but now much closer.

What has not changed is the total waste of time the sites are for rewards.

Fantastic write up. It would be really useful to get some of this information on the wiki as well.

If anyone has suggestions for a (relatively cheap) fleet doctrine to try give them out. I have not yet given up on killing this thing properly with a fleet.

At the moment there appears to be only four practical ways of doing it.

1) 500MN MWD VNI

2) 500MN MWD Cerberus

3) 500MN MWD Ishtar

4) Some kind of RR setup using Nestors/Rattlesnakes

CCP is determined to make these sites group-play. The problem is that nobody really wants to do that. Another problem is the fact of dismal payouts and useless drops. Yet another is the blistering counter response to even just a T1 cruiser. I was going to use a QLBL Omen but will settle for something else.

Another major problem is that fleets are being roasted by the updated spawn mechanics even with extremely high resistances to thermal damage. EWAR doesn't work, long range webs of the tower (70% strength to 250km), structure neuting and other factors make it more difficult.

Even the 500MN ships have issues which reduce their effectiveness over time. The easiest doctrine to use is probably going to be 500MN VNIs. No logi, but links will help.

This seems incredibly cap unstable, are you sure it's not oversized AB which is what's typically used?

Research as of late has indicated the 500MN MWD vessels won't work anymore.

That would be correct, 500MN Microwarpdrives. The Cerberus fit looked like this: https://zkillboard.com/kill/66527061/

The structure now webs to 300km.

For the curious ones me, Erwin and Ygrasil just did a test on SISI.

3x Dominixes on field and the FOB undocked:
2x Kestrel
7x Caracal
1x Gila
1x Raven
3x Osprey (2x on Raven, one on Caracals)

We killed the ravens, gila and one osprey and stayed on field to grind the FOB to around 70% hull. No respawns.

The Raven constantly stayed at around 100 km with two ospreys near it.

Would be interesting to see with bigger fleet how much DPS they bring out.

Edit: Also now I can confirm that capacitor battery neuting resistance works against the FOB neuts.

Once you have a FOB in system, their "diamond rats" also roam the asteroid belts which will be "annoying" for the AMC. So today was Sisi Test Time: (Fleet 5P69)

First attempt: Dualnestors.

That went as well as you'd expect. I had the FOB response AND the NPC Miner response fleet on grid. Went poof.

Second attempt: Dualnestors + someone pulling the NPC Miner response.

Thing here was first have Serendipity in a fast ship (in this case an interceptor), capstable when running a MWD. Said person then warped to the belt were the diamond miners were doing their thing, shoot them once in order to trigger the response fleet, then orbit a random rock @ 750km with MWD on. Response fleet showed up and kept chasing the "puller".

Then warp the Nestors @ 350km of the FOB & establish captransfer. FOB response was:

In this second test i also had Zeerse bring an Absolution & an Ishtar. We killed the 4 frigates, then i MJDd into the Battleships as they were keeping ~100km range. Which made them warp off & reposition themselves @ ~100km again. So we didnt bother further with them, warped @ zero of the FOB, and started pounding the thing with Sentries. The remaining NPC Battleships kept their DPS on the command ship (ignoring the Ishtar & the Nestors).
edit: command ship was boosting armor hp + resists.

It took ~40 minutes to blow the thing up, neut pressure was nonexistant and DPS got outrepped by SoE POWAH. Now, once the Base went poof, the remaining Battleships didnt warp off but switched target. After waiting 3 minutes, they were still on grid. Maybe a bug ? Or Sisi related ? Who knows. This might suggest you need to kill them in order to get to the loot, so maybe a warp disruptor is needed to prevent them from repositioning and popping the hauler that is needed to scoop the loot ?

Nestor Fit:

Lots to be said about this. First off it was barely holding in my first, but pretty much overkill in the second attempt. I was fairly scared of neuts so i went a bit overboard on that side. Now once we were shooting the FOB & the rats keeping their DPS on the Absolution, i could have refitted into all Drone Damage Amplifiers in the lows (yay Nestor refit in space) to speed things up. I also should have given it a try with less neut resist things, but at the end i was just happy it worked fine.

Conclusion:
- We now have a practical way to get rid of a FOB menace in the AMC.
- Need one "Miner Puller".
- Took 40 mins, so maybe also need a scout in case of WTs.
- Fit needs to be a bit more streamlined.

I'll give it another test in the near future with Domis & mobile depots. Just in order to not have to use my precious white Battleships.
