Ares

Post by White 0rchid »

Third best inty. Weaker than the malediction - it has worse tank and higher sig. Don't bother fitting guns, hybrids use cap and there's literally no situation you will find guns useful.

This advanced fit has been in Fleetup for a while now. How viable is it now?

Not sure what it looks like in pyfa/eft as not at a PC but in general it's a bad idea to fit meta scrams/points on intys who have bonuses to them as you're intentionally nerfing your own bonuses.

Conversely it's also a bad idea to fit T2 mwds in pretty much any scenario.

Its pretty tight in fitting but the difference between scoped and t2 scramblers is 1km in range after bonuses (10.3km vs 11.3km).

Why are T2 MWDs bad on an interceptor? Is it because of the fitting and activation costs?

Also have to take into account heat (12.4 vs 13.5). I can't think of a time I've not heated the scram/point when in an inty.

T2 MWDs are bad because they suck on fitting and activation yes, but they are also massively higher on sig than the restrained, and sig is what you don't need as an inty. They are also 100x the cost. (30k vs 3.4mil)

Sorry for asking silly questions. And now for some silly ramblings.

I was just trying to understand why and how bad T2s are because its mentioned on the Wiki as well but it seems like the negative effects of drawbacks aren't as bad as the mediocre gains from the positives.

Comparing Drawbacks
  • Signature Radius

    Code: Select all

Interceptor Skill Base Restrained (450%) Enduring/T2(500%) Diff
    L4 (60% reduced) 35 98 m (X 2.8) 105 m (X 3) 7 m
    L5 (75% reduced) 35 74.4 m (X 2.125) 78.8 m (X 2.25) 4.4 m

  • Capacitor activation cost
In terms of activation costs its dependent on High Speed Speed Maneuvering but again differences are marginal with increased skill. The cost differences are considered per cycle.

    Code: Select all

    High Speed Maneuvering Enduring(35 GJ) Restrained(45 GJ) T2(50 GJ) End/Res-delta Res/T2-delta
    L3 (15% reduced cost) 29.75 38.25 42.5 8.5 GJ 4.25 GJ
    L4 (20% reduced cost) 28 36 40 8 GJ 4 GJ
    L5 (25% reduced cost) 26.25 33.75 37.5 7.5 GJ 3.75 GJ

While it looks like the Enduring module pulls ahead significantly on cost, when considering cost as a factor of total capacitor is not that great because of the penalty to capacitor that is more than the Restrained or T2 ones. But the differences between Restrained and T2 again don't seem to be too far apart.

    Code: Select all

High Speed Maneuvering Enduring(333 GJ) Restrained(355 GJ) T2(355 GJ)
    L3 (15% reduced cost) 9.46% 11.41% 12.68%
    L4 (20% reduced cost) 8.93% 10.77% 11.97%
    L5 (25% reduced cost) 8.41% 10.14% 11.27%

  • Cost
Cost as well is a major drawback for a ship that has to be at the front line to do its job. Though it might be more apt to call it a +3m ISK as the % route can be a bit deceiving because its only a 7% increase on the fit's overall cost as opposed to %s against T1 fits.
Comparing Benefits
  • Speed
So the only benefit is speed and here is how it looks on the Ares

    Code: Select all

    Acceleration Control Restrained(505%) Restrained OH(758%) T2(510%) T2 OH(765%) Cold-d OH-d
    L3 (15% increase) 3722.52 5318.18 3754.12 5365.58 31.60 47.40
    L4 (20% increase) 3861.27 5526.31 3894.25 5575.77 32.97 49.46
    L5 (25% increase) 4000.03 5734.44 4034.37 5785.96 34.34 51.52

Conclusion
At all 5s we'd be trading:
  • +2 MW powergrid cost
  • +4.4m signature radius
  • -3.75 GJ per cycle
  • +3m ISK
for an increase in
  • 34m/s cold and 51m/s hot on the base hull
    OR
  • 42m/s cold and 63m/s hot on the suggested hull with speed modifiers
I'm now disenchanted by the T2 module.

Targeting rig is MANDATORY on any fleet interceptor. There is no solo fits, there is no shield Malediction/Ares, guns are mostly useless on a ceptor so NEVER make sacrifices to fit them. Here are the fits I recommend, tried and tested thoroughly: https://forum.eveuniversity.org/viewtop ... 59#p788237
I suggest you keep only one fitting for each fleet interceptor to avoid confusing people (with the exception of the Malediction, you can do a plated fleet tackle if you want).
