Manticore

Post by Kerodan Alduin »

I screened zkillboard and Bomber's Bar for suitable bomber fits. RL got the better of me so I didn't manage to finish all four bombers, but here's the start:

I noticed that our current fittings have one variant each for a "tanky" bomber with a medium shield extender. My research doesn't suggest however, that these are widely used, so I would recommend leaving those out. Any suggestions to the contrary regarding tanky bombers?

Other than that I would suggest for each racial bomber to make one "whaling" fit (i.e., with bomb launcher for focused void bombs or bombing runs) and one DD fit (one empty high slot). I am unsure whether we also need a WH bomber (with probe launcher) on the wiki, as WH dwellers should know what they are doing, anyway.

There is typically a wide variety of possibilities for the midslots, so in the comments it should be pointed out that each particular fit is just an example and details may vary according to the FC's discretion.

With that said, I present my fitting suggestions:

The problem with bombers is that there are actually quite a lot of different situations you will find them in. For instance, it's not uncommon to simply fit a cloak, bomb launcher, and warp stabs/istabs for pure bombing runs.

Perhaps 4 fits would work as you suggest though. T1 torp/bomb and T2 torp/bomb fits.

You are 100% correct on the shield extenders though. They are terrible fits and should be wiped off the face of the earth. Those MSEs are pretty much never going to save you.

Edit: Maybe using some of the BB fits as a base might be a good idea.

There is practically no difference between the T1 and T2 whaling fits - are those really sufficiently distinct that they should be listed separately?

True. Depending on fitting skills the T1 version doesn't need a second Processor Overclocking Unit and can fit a different rig in that space (recommendations on which one?). Those differences may as well be explained in the comments of the fit. On the other hand, it may be easier to have a complete fit linked which people can just import into the game without need to adjust them.

In my opinion, we should post optimized fits oriented on people with relatively high skills so they now what to train to.
It is often possible to address a fitting issue by meta-down modules.

So I did tweak T1 DD and replaced CPU rig, by torpedo application rig. Interesting thing, T1 DD is same T2 (with faction missiles). To match characteristics, I also replaced Polycarbon rig with application rig as well.
