Re: Magnate

The Scout should probably have scanning upgrades these days. Although I am a fan of combat probes the expanded launcher seems unreasonably hard to fit but I guess it's worth sacrificing the nanos if one is somewhat serious about scanning with low skills. T2 Co-procs appear to be necessary to make it work so I also went with T2 Nanofibers. A new character should stick to core probes which make it cheaper and easier to fit, will follow up with a fit for that. just fill lows with nanos.

Re: Magnate

Is 4 Nanos really worth it on a core probing fit? Would there be anything better that could be put there?

What would the use of such a core probe T1 magnate be?

Re: Magnate

I'm not seeing the purpose behind the Amarr Scout fit. A Covert Ops ship does the job and is better at it. At best the T1 ship can act as a passive/defensive scanner. Once something has been Combat probed down I don't expect to see the Magnate acting as a warp in unless the element of surprise is not needed or the target can't shoot back.

Where and how would we use the Amarr Scout fit?

Re: Magnate

I think a beginner relic/data explorer fit should be in there. Realistically one would only ever fly the Magnate while training up to fly a Covops or Astero to level that experience up so I've left it between T1-T2 components.

Notes:
  • Hornet EC-300 needs the most training but is only needed when in hostile space.
  • Remove Hornet EC-300 and the cloak and we get a fit that can be flown by an Amarr Alpha clone.
  • Not sure if Improved Cloaking Device is worth recommending because it makes the ship cost almost double than with a prototype cloak.

[Magnate, Amarr Explorer]

Inertial Stabilizers II

4th Nano reduces align time by 0.15s, don't know a useful alternative. For a WCS to be useful you'd have to already get caught.

The use is scanning wormholes or combat probing for people with low skills. It's enough to scan down someone that is logged off in space with a timer and for scanning out a wh for daytripping from kspace or finding valuable gas.

Frozen Adler wrote:Iirc, you need the improved to do the cloak + mwd trick

Just tried it out and the time you need to get into warp after the "failed" cloak+mwd trick is short enough for me to believe you won't realistically be locked by anyone.

Basic exploration is definitely one of the most likely uses for this hull, and I like the stabbed fit, I would only replace one of the Nanos with a DCU (just to survive that little extra while you align).

I never liked stabs because they also make you easier to lock.

Re: Magnate

FWIW I think it'd be worth it to have a couple different targeted fits: solo explorer, WHC-gang explorer, and goofball battle magnate cus why not. I agree with Biwako... realistically the only folks who should be flying Magnates are alphas who literally have no other options or omegas doing battle Magnate for lulz.

Here's my vote for alpha solo explorer:
  Code:
[Magnate, Alpha Solo Explorer]

Type-D Restrained Inertial Stabilizers
Type-D Restrained Inertial Stabilizers
Type-D Restrained Inertial Stabilizers
'Stoic' Core Equalizer I

Relic Analyzer I
Data Analyzer I
5MN Y-T8 Compact Microwarpdrive

Core Probe Launcher I, Core Scanner Probe I
[Empty High slot]
[Empty High slot]

[Empty Rig slot]
Small Gravity Capacitor Upgrade I
Small Gravity Capacitor Upgrade I

I like the inert stabs over the nanos because you gain half a second to warp, bringing you to 4.52s on the new Amarr char, but either is fine. Realistically the only thing that will catch you in that time is a long point (unless you're unbelievably unlucky), so adding a warp stab means you'll still get away if a small gang manages to get one point on you, and you'll still be able to crash gate before being blasted away if there's more than that or someone's within scram range. Adds some time to locking cans though.

Scan strength should be enough with frig 4, astrometrics 3, and astro acquisition 3 to get any relic/data site (probably needs sisters probes/launcher for sleeper caches, which a solo mag can't really do anyway).

Also I'm sorry for this:
  Code:
[Magnate, Polar Magnate]

Magnetic Field Stabilizer II
Magnetic Field Stabilizer II
Magnetic Field Stabilizer II
Micro Auxiliary Power Core I

Sensor Booster II, Scan Resolution Script
Tracking Disruptor II, Tracking Speed Disruption Script
5MN Microwarpdrive II

Polarized Rocket Launcher, Scourge Rage Rocket
Polarized Light Neutron Blaster, Federation Navy Antimatter Charge S
Polarized Light Neutron Blaster, Federation Navy Antimatter Charge S

Small Hybrid Ambit Extension I
Small Hybrid Burst Aerator I
[Empty Rig slot]

Hornet EC-300 x3
Hobgoblin II x3
Salvage Drone I x2

But can also escape, if locked by only one ship (e.g.) an Astero with non-faction scram.

I guess it's also up to personal taste on how to GTFO :)

There's a philosophical debate that we're going to have to have here about what fits to put up and what not to. This isn't the thread for it, but I'd say that we should keep it simple and just put an explorer fit and a cargo fit in. Anything else is just going to be confusing to newbros.

Re: Magnate

Edit: I agree with Lotanis about having a single fit for a valid purpose. Which is also why I think the combat scanner fit is not a great candidate to be carried forward.

The choice on low slots is usually subjective and there's probably a lot of combinations with 4 slots. We can agree on one set of modules and mention in the notes possible replacements and the benefits they bring.

Re: Magnate

That's the idea, yes. Settle for one "standard" fit for the job, then we can list personal preference refits in the notes section.
