[Citadel Expansion] Capitals

Anyone who hasn't seen it yet, EVE Vegas 2015 keynote dropped an atomic bomb of reveals, especially for Capitals.

http://www.twitch.tv/themittanidotcom/v/22097477 Skip to 41:50.

Major points to take away:

- New more mobile camera modes that will help with carrier gameplay. Camera can be detached from your own ship/ any ship.
- Fighters will be replaced with 'Squadrons' which can have a variety of effects (ewar, neut, straight dps, combos) - their 'health' represent how many fighters are left in a 'Squadron'
- New type of specialist Logistic Capital ship, called initially the Force Auxiliary - Triage module can only be used here now it seems - the Triage Archon days are numbered.
- You can't refit with a weapons timer anymore  So no more using your buddy capital refitting service to switch over hardener fit when you start to get aggro, first need to deagress. (This also applies to Subcaps)
- EWAR Immunity is going to be a thing of the past. Titan/Supers can be tackled even by a newbro in a rifter. Not sure what this will mean for HICs now... but it'll probably still be advisable to get them onto a tackled Super ASAP given new Subcap specific weapons that a Super/Capital can now wield if fitted with them, and the Infinite Point, since the EHP of any capital is enough to deaggro and refit warp core stabs if a sub-optimal fleet has tackled the capital.
- All caps get Fleet hangers, Ship Hangers, Refit services
- Capitals specific Modules = armor plates, shield extenders, prop mods, neuts, NOSs, Cap boosters, charges and batteries. - plus existing modules will all get Meta/T2/faction versions.
- Capital Remote Repairs are only effective in Triage.
- Sickle class Doomsday weapon = giant laser that cuts anything in a designated path.
- Titan Hand of God Doomsday = using its bridge tech, titan can grab any subcap ships in an designated area (on grid? close by? medium range?) and throw them to a random spot in the same solar system.

Wow, gonna have to tweak the skill plan a bit. :D

I as yet can't find the specific discussion on Capitals that happened at 20:00 UTC on Day 2 of EVE Vegas, so pls link if you find it.

Don't adjust your skill plans just yet, hopefully someone that's actually smart over at CCP will realise that some of these changes are so bad it's not even funny. They wouldn't even make a good april fool's joke.

Re: [Citadel Expansion] Capitals

The only plan change I'm making is skilling my two carrier alts into dreads. My main already flies one, but one might not be enough if CCP manages to not be shit at them.

Re: [Citadel Expansion] Capitals

In K-space I can understand that, but in W-space it doesn't make sense to train into something that will do as much DPS as a Vindicator but weigh about 10 times as much...

Re: [Citadel Expansion] Capitals

I hope they just give everyone the fax skill at the same level as carrier, or just have it use the carrier skill.

Also, the ability to decide if a carrier should become a fax at launch would be nice. Insert carrier, redeem fax hull. Good for 2 weeks or something.

Re: [Citadel Expansion] Capitals

Agreed, both Azmo and Rashar.

Historically, bringing capitals in K-space was never about loldps, it was always survivability. People who don't carrier rat make a big deal about how broken carrier ratting is. The truth of the matter is that you're only going to average 30m isk ticks with the carrier, which is less than you can get out of a Vindicator, but slightly more than an Isktar. The whole point of using a carrier is survivability.

Which is why I wrote that I thought Siege/Triage were really dumb and made even less sense after the new implementation of caps.

Re: [Citadel Expansion] Capitals

The 'capitals won't be able to use regular drones' made me cancel a bunch of skills currently training. If you are a dedicated capital pilot the regular drone skills seem to be worthless now. I would imagine fighter skills will transfer to squadrons but what about the drone skills?

The first of hopefully many dev blogs about the capital rebalance is up, kinda surprised nobody's posted it already.

Re: [Citadel Expansion] Capitals

It seems pretty clear that W-Space is a bit of an afterthought for CCP, especially with this iteration. It's all about null. I hope there's a meaningful role for dreads after this is all done and dusted, I don't want to just run escalations :(

Not sure if we will be able to do even that. As it is now it's either 2k dps well projected on gurdians with the high angle guns or shit applied dps with the "new current" guns.

Actually I got a different impression from the presentations. CCP is still very much focused on wormhole space but they see it as an area for smaller more subtle engagements. T3 ships; medium citadels and faction cruisers/battlecruisers. Not the huge slogfests of SOV Null. Hence their discouragement of capitals and XL citadels.

Mass limits already prevent "huge slogfests" when using capitals and force smaller engagements. For wormhole dwellers, we're able to only commit a very small handful of capitals, less if you don't want to close the chain behind you and be stuck in a hostile system with no way back.

And that is kind of my point; wormholes aren't exactly the place for Capitals. More an "extra" rather than required. So to say CCP has forgotten wormholers because of an expansion focused on capitals and ciadels is a bit misleading. Especially as Mildon noted in the other thread CCP did take into account wormholers feedback re: length of vulnerability windows.

I believe this is best summed up by CCP Larrikin when one participant at the roundtable complain the CCP was making the lives of wormholers difficult.

Re: [Citadel Expansion] Capitals

Wormholes are a place for capitals as long as the jump mass limits continue to support the weight of capitals passing through them. If CCP didn't want capitals in w-space then they would have reduced the jump mass. I don't think wormholers are saying that they've been forgotten. I think what wormholers are trying to say to CCP is don't forget about how we use capitals when making balance changes largely aimed at capital use in null sec. Many of the problems with capitals that CCP is fixing are actually non-issues in wormholes because our mechanics prevent it. N+1? Doesn't exist. Slow cats? Doesn't exist. Not committing our capitals to fights? Doesn't exist. In many ways, the way wormholers use capitals is probably the way CCP would prefer null sec blocs to use them.

I mentioned already on our internal forums that as wormholers we're going to be on the outside looking in at a lot of these capital changes. However, that doesn't mean we shouldn't have a voice on changes to mechanics that will also affect our game play.
