Capital ship fittings - Dreadnought edition

Welcome to Capital Ship fittings threads, post-citadel edition. The meta has slowly started to settle after the initial upheaval, and it turns out heavy cap boosters are, like, really broken.

Dreadnought fits come in two variants, following two contrary philosophies when it comes to Blowing Stuff Up™:
  • Buffer tanked dreads that aim at killing the enemy before it kills them. If their tank begins to fail, they also have the option of exiting siege and receiving repairs. This fit works best against subcapital fleets that don't possess the firepower to break a dreadnought in a reasonable timespan, or in large scale capital engagements where the extra buffer will make your fleet outlast any enemy that's rapidly bleeding low-buffer active tank dreads whose tank is overwhelmed.
  • Self-rep dreads that aim to sustain themselves through whatever DPS the enemy can throw at them. These work best in small-scale capital engagements with only one or two dreadnoughts on each side, where the time to live for a dreadnought is high enough that the local repairs outweigh the loss in buffer. Active tanked fits are generally more expensive, and really, really appreciate extra ISK investment to further improve the amount of punishment they can withstand.

Provided are the High-Angle Weapon (HAW) variants for self-rep dreads and Anti-Capital gun variants for buffer dreads. These can be interchanged by simply replacing the weapons on existing fits.
For local tanked dreads, the Revelation is currently king, followed by the Moros and Naglfar. The Phoenix has issues applying. Again.
Buffer tanked dreads are typically going to see more neuting pressure, thus placing Naglfar > Revelation > Moros due to capless guns. Phoenix needs not apply (and also does not apply).

Some general notes:
  • Cap boosters should be run in sync with tank modules if you're under fire. Once you're being targeted heavily, keeping yourself alive has higher priority than doing damage.
  • For buffer fits, you don't have any tank modules to use your cap boosters on. In these cases, they should be used to keep your guns cycling and deal maximum damage.
  • Heavy capacitor booster modules don't care if they're being fed by regular 3200 or Navy 3200 charges, they can only fit one per reload regardless. Fill your cargo with 3200s (leave enough space to reload ammo!)
  • HAW dreads work best when assisted. Work with your FC or capital commander to sort out subcaps that provide web and paint support for you.
  • Don't forget your insurance. If you don't like being the first to die, flying a dread might not be for you.
  • Check with your capital commander on whether you're expected to go buffer or self-rep fit for the fight. Carrying a spare refit in cargo is a possibility, allowing you to refit just before jumping into the fight. Don't forget to leave modules you don't need behind when you undock, no point in losing them for no reason!

Re: Capital ship fittings - Dreadnought edition

Make sure you have relevant Capital Gun refits in your station hanger, for k-space drops the odds are it may very well be a one way trip to counter hostile caps in which case a cheap(ish) Cap Gun Buffer fit will serve you well, also remember the insurance before undocking.
