Capital Ship skill plans - Dreadnought edition

The below skill plans are guidelines for piloting the four races' Dreadnought-class vessels, updated to the Citadel expansion. All plans are in importable format.

For each ship, there are four skill plans:
  1. Minimum level: This is the "more ISK than sense" level. Below this level of skills, you shouldn't even consider taking your capital into combat. This level provides basic functionality, but is still very noticably inferior to a properly trained pilot's ship.
  2. Basic level: This is the baseline that most capital pilots should aim for at first. It provides a solid foundation of skills that increase your capital ship's effectiveness in combat, making it vastly superior to the Minimum level while still avoiding overly long skill trains. T2 siege it may not be, but it gets the job done. Mostly.
  3. Actually Good level: This is the level that capital ship pilots should aspire to. It includes skills that, while taking a fairly long time to train, will greatly augment your capital ship and presents a strong increase in performance over the Basic level. If you are looking to join a non-Uni entity with your capital ship, this is what you should have.
  4. Advanced level: The perfectionist's level. Skills in this plan will likely not provide a huge impact, and are typically long trains for a rather mediocre increase in combat effectiveness. If you're running out of things to train, this is for you.
(Note: All of these plans are incremental - for example, the Basic plan consists both of everything listed under Minimum as well as everything listed under Basic.)

Q: Why even offer a Minimum level if you're going to say everyone should have Basic?
Because I know that, otherwise, someone somewhere will rip out the Basic plan's guts without knowing what they're doing because they want to fly a cap more quickly. Not saying it's a smart thing. The Minimum plan is there to ensure they can't actively endanger the fleet by doing so.

Q: But Titus, do I really need <skill X> to fly a dread? I know it's in the Minimum plan, but...
Yes. If you think you have a point beyond "but muh 7 days of training", make it below.

Q: Cyno I at Minimum level?
A: Every pilot needs to have Cyno trained. No exceptions.

Q: Shield skills?
A: On a capital ship, 5% of your maximum shields is still a lot.

Q: Anchoring III?
A: Allows you to drop mobile cyno inhibitors, mobile scan inhibitors and some other handy gadgets. It's, what, 10 hours to train? Just do it.

Q: Resistance Phasing?
A: It's a requirement for the new capital Flex hardeners.

Q: Local tank skills? But I only want to fly buffer tanked dreads!
A: Then skip the local tank skills. Make sure they don't affect anything buffer tanked, first.

Q: Does that mean I can skip all the buffer skills if I only want to fly local tanked dreads?
A: No, of course not. Buffer matters.

Q: Torpedo Specialization on the Phoenix? That's a subcap skill?
A: The Phoenix HAW launcher uses the Torpedo skill instead of the XL Torpedo skill. Yes, that means you can actually not train XL torps at all if you just want to use it as a HAW dread.

Phoenix plans added.
T2 siege and Dreadnought V moved from Basic to Actually Good. Basic now only has TWR4 and Dread4.

I would argue that T2 siege aka TWR V belongs to basic. As far as I understand no one out there SRPs T1 siege dreads and wherever you go T2 siege is a requirement.

Having shitloads of dreads means you can get away with having them be less-good. It's really easy to just wreck stuff and ref structures in a single cycle if you can dump 50 dreads on a thing.

The corollary to this, though, is that if you have shitloads of dreads, you can afford to require T2 Siege, because there are a non-zero number of shitlords that will never train Tac Weapons Reconfig V unless you beat them like rented mules. This is what everyone with a lot of dreads has realized. Dreads are a ship that players actually desire. To paraphrase a friend of mine (I think it was Andy K), dreadnoughts are an alliance-level asset that players buy themselves. They don't do a single thing for you as a player (unlike ship-moving carriers, for instance), but since they're capitals with big-ass guns, people happily plunk down 3b of their own cash to buy one. You can afford, then, to make people train.

At the other end of the extreme--your end, no offense--you do not have shitloads of dreads, so you need each one to not suck. Since you can't put remote reps on a siege'd dread, and you can't really tank forever in one, dropping dreads means you're committing to the overwhelming DPS of your dicknoughts to win the fight. Hence, your dreads need to be good, because they're very vulnerable and very expensive and they can't do a single fucking thing to defend themselves and they're not going anywhere.

The other thing is, the time your dreads are exposed, self-tackled, and vulnerable measured in siege cycles. If you can't win the fight or RF the structure in one cycle, you either have to warp them off, or give your enemies another five minutes to organize and kick you in the nuts. Five minutes is a long friggin' time. Keeping your shit mobile and not exposed for long is what keeps you alive when you can't escalate to supers for whatever reason.

Hence, Tactical Weapons Reconfiguration V is completely a basic, mandatory, required skill for dreadnoughts.

JDC V is totally a nice skill to have, and it's a lot harder when people don't have it, but it's not as damaging as coming up +140% short on damage. Not to mention only being able to lock two targets instead of 3.

Big revamp. Reduced a bunch of overzealous legacy requirements, especially in ranks 1 and 2. Cleaned up some inconsistencies.

Also, plans now come in in-game importable format. EVEMon versions are still available here.

The "Basic" and "Minimum" plans are now available in the Uni Fleet-Up as skill certificates. I also added the "Actually Good" plans for the Big Shooty Space Potato and the Vertical Supremacy.
