Re-map plan for Miner/Industrialist

Post by Eugate Maulerant »

Hello all,

I have tried setting up a training plan with the help of a couple of people through discord/mumble (thanks!!) for my alt.(Eugate Maul, located NSC).

The 'plan' is the following:
1) get barges to lvl 4
2) get T2 mining drones and drones 5 before remap
3) remap to I/M
4) fill a full year's worth of skills to not waste the bonus remaps

the remap (as calculated by evemon) is base I:27 and M:21. I have +3 implants at the moment, will be thinking of upgrading to 5.
The remap happens after Mining Drone Specialization 4, before Evasive Maneuvering 4 (which goes faster under new remap) -> marked in red

After this I would re-map to something different to train expedition frigates and exhumers, probably the other ORE ships.

I have a couple of doubts about this:
- should I get exp frigates before the remap, does it make sense, or will a venture do?
- am i forgetting support skills ?
- am i forgetting I/M skills that will be relevant (for barges, but also for exhumers/exp frigates/orca etc) that fall under the I/M category?
- I have added the most common NSC ores to repro lvl 4 to fit T2 crystals in my strip miners, all the others lvl 3 (if my char ever decides to leave the NSC) -> is this a waste of time?

Would you train things differently and if so, how and why?

Every bit of input is hugely appreciated. I lack the 'grand scheme of things'-vision to make decisions like this.
Especially for the Manufacturing skills. I do not know if I forgot skills (like i took advanced small/medium/ind ships) but I might have forgotten others that would also be needed, or maybe some reprocessing skills could be used for other skills.

Thank you!

Here is the skill-plan

Not an expert, but keep in mind that most if not all skills under Spaceship Command are Willpower and Perception. This remapping would mean that it will be harder for you to train towards a new hull.
Also, totally not my business, but I would not recommend a year of skill planned when you're still new to the game. If you think you've tried everything, and that industry is 200% your thing, then by all means, go for it.

Says the guy who remapped 2 months into the game :D

Hey, thanks for the reply. Well, this is for one of my alts who I have made specially for Industry (broad sense)
For the hulls: these would be trained after this year (new remap) meaning I will be flying barges and Ventures for a whole year before upgrading to exp frigate/exhumer (which is why I wonder if I should train the basic hulls before doing this remap)

It's quite hard to give full advice, as I don't really know what you want this character to be doing.
  • Do you want to mine mainly with strip miners (barges/exhumers), or with drones (porpoise/orca)?
If the former, is training mining drones worth it?
If the latter, would you like to use the boosting bonuses of the ships (needing Leadership skills) as well?
  • Do you want to produce just T1 or T2/T3 as well? Do you want to invent your own T2 and T3 BPC's? (will require a lot of Science skills)
  • Is PI and drug manufacturing essential too?
After answering this, I would plan my skills in parts:
  • Ship handling/fitting (if you even plan to fly ships at all)
  • Mining & processing
  • Production
  • Invention
  • PI.
These parts would be much easier to comment on than the whole at once.

Put them all in Eve-mon and sort by attributes, with first attributes being primary sort en second attribute second.
Then drag the really small groups with hardly used attributes (like CHA skills) to the top. Put a 'break' (potential re-map) after those.
Then put the larger groups for the first attribute in the order you would like to train them. Again, put a 'break' after (each of) them.

Finally, have eve-mon calculate the remaps for the 'breaks'. In case there's no year between them you'll be warned. Either put more skills in those groups or delete the 'break'; possibly while moving a group to above the first remap... Repeat until all planned remaps will last you at least a year.

As for your skillplan, there are a few skills you planned to V, that you might only want to train if you really, really want/need them.
  • Mining Upgrades: I've only ever seen one fit that would require this trained to V, but it wasn't a fit I would use.
  • All rigging skills: train these to III and only go further if you want to further diminish the drawbacks of certain rigs.
  • Advanced Ship Construction skills: these mostly just shorten the production time, which might not be what you really need. Some skill levels of these are required for certain activities though, so make sure to check for these.
For example: Advanced Small Ship Construction V is needed for T3D's (though you would need to train some science skills too to actually be able to make them), but Advanced Industrial Ship Construction enables nothing new after I.
  • Tactical Shield Manipulation: I've not even trained this to V on my main (subcap pilot with nearly 200 mln skillpoints). The 'benefit' of not bleeding armour damage through the last part of shield is offset (for me) by that damage possibly starting to adjust a Reactive Armour Hardener. Unless you plan to use an Invulnerability Core (i.e. a rorqual), for which V is required, I would think hard about training this beyond IV.
  • Shield Emission Systems: IV is enough for T2 repair modules. And do you even want those? Are you going to rep just your (mining) drones or fellow miners as well?
If mainly mining with strip miners I would not train this skill at all, not even to I.
And Deep Core Mining is a strange one. Only level II is needed for the T2 mercoxit mining modules. Higher only diminishes 'cloud damage' while mining mercoxit, but I hear that damage is so low you don't really need to diminish it. So I would train this only to II for now.
Oh, and you will to train Mercoxit Processing to at least I to be able to use crystals to mine mercoxit.

In short: try to define what you really want to do. And plan to first train only those skills that really benefit those goals.
You can always train the more 'fluffy' skills later on, if you find you really want/need them. :)
You might find you won't have to train for a year to get to do what you want to do. ;)

Thank you for the feedback! The skills not to train to 5 are really useful, as well as the shield emission system. I will be adjust.
The problem is I dont 100% know what i want to do, for starters I want to mine and make easy money until I learn the logistics behind manufacturing. PI I am doing on 4 planets at the moment, and the drones: i will be flying barges/exhumers for now, unsure about the future.
I assumed having 5 drones competently out mining would be helpful even on a barge?

is reprocessing lvl 3 needed to use the crystals?

edit: skill plan edited. i dont 100% know what i would want to do, therefore planning to do as much as possible.
i have added mechanical engineering lvl 4 for t3d.
