Verge Vendor Bandits

Well, all began earlier today when I was travelling around sovnull region in my Travel Interceptor. My focus realigned into work while jumping to a new solar system and while working on the topic I forgat that I am in space, lawless space, well the space we set the laws... Well, that did not stop another capsuleer with an Omen Navy Issue roaming around and tackle my Ares while it decloaked and I am still not on my cockpit :D I lost my travel interceptor and +4 implant set with my pod there :) So I decided to come back to Amygnon to buy some more implants from famous Garoun Investment Bank LP Store :)

Well, when I got back, new piece of information attracted my attention; new sites around lowsec! Well we theory crafted that sites a bit from what we heard and knew so far; They have webs, scrams (shutting down MWDs) and neutralizers and have Nightmare spawn as a last wave. Oh and of course not all ships can enter the site through gate, you need specific ships that have bonuses for Heavy Missiles :)

So we gathered a kitchen sink fleet with medium sized ships with self repairing abilities and with heavy missiles and went to Amoderia first! We found our first site there and quickly eliminated the pirates there with our missiles (using kinetic missiles gives the best results apparently for the Caldari vessels, but I suspect for the Nightmare EM type may be better) Note that Osprey Navy Issue ships in the site have the ewar capabilities affromentioned; neuts, web and scram. Without any lose we finished the site and looted it ( an event item and a DED8 level 21st Tier OPE). After 15 minutes no new site appeared so we made our way to Murethand to find another site with the plan of going Avaux and the neighbouring lowsec systems one by one bypassing Ouelletta due to Stay Frosty there :). Also we always look for targets to hit even we are PvE fleet since we have fitted with tackle modules and have good PvP capabilities. While moving to OUE, a Nightmare was spotted at gate and I ordered the fleet to jump to OUE and tackle the Nightmare at Melmaniel gate where it just jumped from. Fleet moved in and tackled the Nightmare right away and the fight began. Nightmare was holding nicely against our combined damage while picking our ships one by one. Yto alerted HSC while I alerted Band Apart (Stay Frosty) to bring more ships to the fight to take down the Nightmare. While HSC moving in Stay Frosty responded first and brough couple of bombers to the field but quickly driven off by the Nightmare. Yto managed to hold the tackle for very long time until HSC cavalries responded and got secondary tackle and Band Apart reshipped into bigger guns and warped back. Nightmare has a helper hauler that gives him cap booster charges during the fight as well. At the end Nightmare managed to kill 10 ships in our fleet but it died too. That was pretty straight forward brawl fight and we fought at close range mostly hence Nightmare were able to hold tackle and grappler on us as well. I would probably get off range with my 100MN AB sooner before I got full damage from its guns but staying put gave the fleet sufficient time (plus Yto's tackling after I die), to catch up. Thanks to cavalries from HSC and Stay Frosty we managed to kill the Nightmare !

Overall evaluation
This was a PvE/PvP hybrid fleet since the event sites located in lowsec systems. We fitted for PvP as well (tackle mods, self repairs and cap boosters) to sustain PvP if we have to. The fleet size was very good, HSC responded in numbers.
  • (Positive stuff)
    # 01 : Fleet discipline was good everyone kept the comms clean and followed the commands without any errors as far as I saw. And on top of it, when we temporarily banded with Stay Frosty against the Nightmare, fleet followed the commands and did not shoot any of them accidentaly while keeping their damage on the primary. No split damage.
    # 02 : HSC response was good when they were informed about the Nightmare
    (Negative stuff)
    # 01 : Fleet formup process was a bit long, but this was not really negative since this was a new event fleet so we theory crafted our fits first.
    # 02 : I was a bit rusty in command seat, i could have manage the fight better in brawl range maybe should have try to bump the NM away from his tackled targets so those targets can warp off and warp back to shake the incoming damage.

Battle Repot

Thanks for joining the fleet, please give your feedbacks (negative or positive) following this post so we can learn and do better next time o7
Fly safe o7

Important Note: I am not sure whether this fleet is valid for EUNI SRP (excluding me and Band Apart of course :) ) , so I am going to sell the gathered loot from the battle field and from the PvE site run at Jita and distribute the income to the lost ship owners as fair as possible, considering their ship types and insurance levels.

------------ SRP Section ------------

Lost ship values and their bare insurance values considered to calculate their modified values and weights in the total lost value. Total income from the loot is multiplied by the each capsuleer's modified weight within all loses and reimbursement paymets are now being done.

It was a little chaotic getting this all together, since several people in HSC chat were not interested in the mission, and we had to arrange people in between breaks about Athanor operating costs and mining yields, but we did eventually organize in another room, where FC took the lead, and we spent a fair amount of time trying to assemble fits on the spot. I particularly had to visit four different stations to get all the parts for my (short-lived) Caracal.

We found the actual PvE encounter fairly easy going, even if we did not get very good drops (shoutout to CuteCumberRoll for thinking to make a Logi fit Gnosis, as that saved my caracal multiple times during the actual PvE encounter). When deciding between waiting and searching for more of them, we somehow had ADHD settle in, and changed to PvP (always on the menu, but I thought we were going to try multiple PvE encounters first).

I feel like we lacked sufficient tackle for the PvP aspect, but given how hastily our ships and fleet were thrown together with entirely new restrictions, it seems inevitable that something was going to be lacking.

Also, a big thanks to all the HSCers who rushed out to join the fight with the Nightmare. That thing was actively repairing as much as we could give it, and they and the other PvPers made the kill possible. Someone (either the Nightmare's alt that was dropping cap rechargers or the other PvPers) was also quick in ninjaing the most expensive module of the loot, which if we had recovered it, by itself would have paid for the portions of the fleet we lost...

Well we were having an interesting discussion about structure costs and mining yield when Yto was calling for the cavalry. So i jumped into one of my brutixes, warped over to OUE, only to discover when i had tackled and weapondisrupeted the NM, that i had 1 full gunload of ammo in cargo and 10 shots in my guns... I forgot to get into fleet and fleet comm channel, so when the Bhaalgorn & Tempest landed i warped of...

Lessons to be learned and ships to be refilled with ammo.

^this. I was doing some stuff on the other side of New Eden, saw the same info in HSC chat, docked up and clone jumped to juf. I joined fleet, but not mumble for some reason. I asked and was told to bring logi, but I didn't realize everyone was shield fit, so I brought an Exequror.... and since I wasn't on mumble, I bailed when Band Apart started to land close to me with flashy BCs and BSs, as I was already taking gateguns from deploying drones against the neutral nightmare instead of just concentrating on repping :/ helped keep tackle alive, lost a flight of drones, would totally join again :D

But going over the fight after docking up again and especially after reading the AAR really drives home the point of how important it is to be in mumble when you are in fleet, at least to listen and know what's going on. Knowing what kind of ships were being used and that we had support from Band Apart would have changed a lot of my poor decisions in this fight.
