Kills and Losses

I took out another fleet aimed at newer player and those who were blood thirsty pirates around Black Rise. Tater Tots is an armoured brawly frigate fleet aimed to get into the face of opponents and blast them. As an armour doctrine, they are intrinsically slower than Magic Merlins and their ilk. The ability to get close therefore depends upon landing on the enemy, forcing them in to range or preventing them from kiting away to secure a kill. We had a good comp of DPS, logi with a VFI for webs / point (keep them from running), a maulus (make them come closer) and a griffin to jam them especially their logi / support.

I hoped to face a small fleet or grab something up to a battlecruiser - I wasn't sure we'd have enough DPS for a battleship but I'd take one if available. Unfortunately, SPACE IS BIG and Black Rise was empty for engageable things. I really didn't want to club seals.

Scout found us a Vexor slow boating off a gate early on. I send a Vanguard through to yellow box him but he didn't agress. We spiked system and burned back to the gate as he jumped but failed to catch him on the other side.

Very little was in space apart from Rorqs and Revelelations in Rakapas / Reitsato. 3 flashy thrashers came into Reisato that we engaged as they de-cloaked but they managed to warp off. A revelation landed so we fleet warped to a ping then chased after them to a small plex. As they were likely to be sniper fit, I warped us at range but they had taken the gate and were 60-70K off the beacon inside. A half-hearted chase was aborted as not to lose anyone.

Even Tama was empty apart from our temp blues from RvB. We did dock at their structure there for repairs and a short bio. Remember guys, Uni doesn't do structure bashing unless under specific conditions and certainly not with blues in any circumstances unless fired upon first! Don't even think about it!

Dotlan and Zkill showed activity up towards Kehjari so we headed up there. We danced with a T2 frigate retribution fleet with deacon logi (and a kikimora) around Hiri. As we hadn't had any action, I hoped to set up a fight on our terms in a small and grab something for 'acceptable' losses. We lost a maulus as we moved quickly through. I had said for DPS to stay anchored on the FC (or beacon) with logi / EWAR at optimals when entering combat. I should've been more explicit for manoeuvring for defensive and offensive positioning for you guys - sorry. The retribution gang didn't want to slide into us or thought we were running away!

(21:18:26) Hirri
Maulus -1.92m

Even Kehjari was uninteresting but we ganked an non-flashy Algos on a gate in Akidagi. I'm really please the fleet and logi kept up everyone as people bounced and no-one died to gate guns to get him. When you are hungry for action and baby seals are the only food then principles go out the window it seems

(21:32:17) Akidagi
Algos +2.23m

We set desto for home for a quick run through Placid but lost our scout in a plex to a Slicer / Retribution combo. I'd wanted to send the vanguard in as well but spiked system hoping that the spike would force them off. Wrong!

(22:09:24) Agoze
Federation Navy Comet -17.87m

Overall, it was a good fleet to FC from my perspective and I'd to give a special mention to scout, logi esp. Jeffrey Fuzzlewumper as first time logi and my EWAR ppl. Hope you guys enjoyed it and learned something. I know I did! Next time we can get more action - BoB willing

Stats
ISK Destroyed: 2,229,238.14
ISK Lost: 19,783,958.36
ISK Delta: -17,564,720.22
Efficiency: 10.1%

Overall evaluation
  • (Positive stuff) - Clear comms, good fleet movement, no gate gun losses - nicely done
(Negative stuff) - Should've suggested Adashboard local scan to get corps / alliances as I was concerned that T2 frigate gang had friends nearby

It was a very good fleet, well executed, just a shame it was quite in LowSec for us this evening :(

The only thing I'll add and is something I should of done last week too is put AAR at the start instead of FLEET as I wouldn't of noticed otherwise :)

Really like the level of detail. Some things I use when it’s slow to find content:
1. F10 and look at “Pilots in space in last 30 min”, results are real time vs Dotlan delay
2. F10 and look at “Active cynos” it’s a great way to practice gate gun mechanics if it’s on an NPC station
3. Leave FW and check the generic Low Sec .1 and .2 space. Your target will be those running the belts for clone tags. You commonly see BCs, AFs, and T3Cs out in the belts clone farming. You’ll just need a scout that’s great at D Scan.
4. If everyone is willing, setup and in-fleet fight, or fight the FC for some content at the end
