We decided to run c5 sites in a magnatar system tonight and had great success with the fleet on the first 3 sites clearing the site plus Drifter. On the forth site we lost 3/5 of the fleet due to 3 upgraded avenger battleships being present and not noticing immediately therefore they were able to spread points and neut out the fleet in short order. In order to recover the loot which was dropped we established a grid of warp ins such that a pilot could warp in at distance and drop a MTU and then already be aligned out to the warp out. At that point the idea is to warp in a second time to loot the MTU and warp out with the loot.

This is the loot from the first 90 minutes of the fleet which in addition to insurgence payout and dropped loot from nestors will be used to fund the replacement of the 3 ships lost as per Open House standard procedure. In total we lost 2.031 billion isk but earned 1.994 Billion isk for a total lost of 37 million isk in an hour and a half. However had we scouted correctly we would have cleared closer to 3 billion isk with no losses in 2.5 hours roughly.

The key mistake that was made was failing to use this ship to establish warp ins and confirm that such traps are have not been laid.
SP determines what you can fly not where you can fly.

Very unfortunately how that happened, but the ship that triggered it got out.

Not sure how they got out myself. Just so unusual...

They warped caps in at range and then warped off. What killed you was a capital escalation. The escalations always spawn at the same place in reference to the site warp in. So they(most likely HK alts) probably had a cloaky scout that warped back and forth a couple of times and then warped the cap to the scout. I’ve done this myself a couple of times, it’s a very effective way of killing ratters that don’t pay attention.

Lessons for you to take away from this:
1 always d-scan, caps warp super slow and the escalation doesn’t spawn until the cap hit grid. You should have been able to get everyone out safely.
2 did you check for poses and citadels? If there was a fort have eyes on it.
3 you don’t need a zephyr per se, but be mindful of the inhabitants.

This escalation was already spawned when we first arrived on site; the escalation happened prior to us entering this hole.
Based on the system's killboard, a carrier fighter died on July 19th. I suspect that it was at this site.

We do check POSes and citadels, especially Forts.

I think the best solution to avoid this type of thing is to use a cloaky ship to run through all the anomalies we want to do and confirm that only the first wave has spawned. We can also use that ship to provide better warp-in bookmarks.

Our two mistakes from my point of view:
1.) We were too much into the Oruze Cruize to realize that there were 3 extra ships (Upgraded Avengers) on site. If we had noticed, we might have been able to warp out in time.
2.) We didn't check the sites for escalations.

If we didn't do either one of those, the situation would have turned out better.
