[Kamela] [Spectre] 180224 0130 Roam

Post by Glen Burney »

I had a Friday evening free, and nothing on the Calendar, so I set up a Spectre roam with my favorite doctrine: Armor Dessies and friends. The idea with this fleet is simple: smash and grab. We gank, we fight, we scatter, we re-position, and we do it again. We are going to look for the weakness in our enemy and exploit it. We are going to be small and fast, cruisers are too bulky and have to be managed carefully. Booshers are great assets for our fleet.

Overall it was a great fleet, the prolonged engagement in Kourmonen at the end was very satisfying. Our logi was OUTSTANDING. In many of the fights, I really felt invincible, such was the logi support. My confessor loss at the end was really more a factor of my own hubris than anything the logi did, I REALLY wanted to break that kiting T2D conga line, and we did :)

For this roam, I relied on the the following map:

The area offers some wonderful opportunities for the fleet to chill on a gate while the scouts check out little pockets. At first it was very quiet:

Kills and Losses
(02:17:56) Tararan
Maulus +3.44m
Capsule +1.38m

(02:24:02) Arzad, Amamake
Talwar +5.27m
Thrasher +3.24m

And then we had alot of battlecruisers on D-scan around the Amamake ring. Finally we got a Hurricane on a gate, but he burned away and we lost 2 friends in the fray. Overall we did very well with gate guns, but not really in this specific engagement. Remember: If you engage a neutral on a gate with your prop mod on, you better be aligned, or at least have a plan to align to something close to your velocity vector!

(02:33:48) Auga
Sentinel -53.79m
Confessor -98.6m
Bifrost -114.55m
Hurricane +74.3m
Thrasher +12.32m

Then we chased 3 Battleships into Siseide, and worked on trying to get them. At the same time, there was a multiboxer(?) trying to alpha us with drive-bys. We did a good job first avoiding the Thrashers, then setting up to wreck them. We missed one Battleship by only a bit, and then got one off gate a little.

(02:47:49) Siseide, Egghelende
Thrasher +4.3m
Thrasher +3.23m
Thrasher +3.22m
Thrasher +4.17m
Thrasher +3.21m
Hyperion +313.66m
Capsule +20.15m

The very wise and competent Spectre Jr. FC, RT Cancer, was doing an excellent back-seat FC job keeping an eye on Dotlan and zkill. Basically scouting with other tools, I was impressed. He found alot of activity down in Arzad, so we moved quickly, but only found a Stabber to kill:

(03:13:18) Arzad
Stabber +44.38m

Then RT Cancer indicated there were some BNIs getting kills in Kamela, so we moved back that way. On the road, we got a Catalyst.

(03:19:20) Tzvi
Catalyst +13.48m

Then we were back in Kamela, and things were busy for quite a while. The action was heavy enough that I handed the fleet to Arashi / RT Cancer, and I got my Raven out. We started to pile on at the large, and then more things landed and we boogied. I think we could have stayed, but someone advised that it was too much, whatever it was. I think there was maybe an Armegeddon that we could have finished, but the whole idea here is smash and grab, so that's what we did. I reshipped to my confessor again, after getting on 2 BC kills with the Raven.

A few minutes after, we owned the Large and this BC landed among us.

Then I believe we slid into this group at the medium. I asked that the logi be primaried, then we spread tackle.

For a while we were in Kamela on the Choonka gate and things were happening. The group of thrashers that appeared to be multi-boxing (but could have been just a well trained group) kept trying to do drive-bys. They would land at 100 sometimes. And an Oprey Navy issues would do the same. I had a few pilots align and burn towards Kourmonen gate from our spot on the Choonka gate, and stop at 170. Then I had the fleet warp to them at 70, so that we were all sitting at 100 off the gate, aligned with Kourmonen. And then this happened, to the delight of all:

(04:06:25) Kamela
Osprey Navy Issue +117.13m

I think shortly after, the Maelstrom was at 0 at the medium?

Maelstrom +329.92m
Capsule +0.01m

Then. After a long time in Kamela, we were attracted to the Kourmonen gate where there was I think a BS or BC that we engaged. We jumped through and there were 2 Paladins landing, with a Vindicator and a Gnosis and another BC. I think they were all flashy. I didn't think we would be able to do much with the Paladins, but the Vindicator was a bit far from them, so we tried to work on it.

Mind you, this all was happening with many gate tacticals, so I was directing the fleet to warp to me alot. Or, "Scatter, then when you land, warp back to Glen." It was alot like swarming tactics, hit quick and get out, then reform.

So we warped down to around the Vindicator and were trying to scram / web / kill before he got back to the protection of the Nestors, who were at 0 on the gate. Then a few people told me there was a Typhoon Fleet Issue BS behind us, so I had us screech our tires, and get out to dispatch the wandering Battleship, which we did to the tune of 800M.

After that is a bit of a blur. The whole time, there was a gang of kitey Talwars and T2D, and they were dangrous to catch / engage, matter of fact they did kill my Confessor. But we used combat probes, alignments between tacticals, and smash / grab tactics in general to romp all over the field for quite a while. I'm not sure exactly who we were fighting, but thanks to them for not dropping caps. Some people in our fleet wanted to drop caps, but I'm not a huge fan of that, at least not at this stage in my career. I rather prefer the guerilla tactics. Or I rather prefer KILLING caps, rather than using them. At least for now.

But like I said I am thankful that caps were not brought to bear in this fight, it really made for a wonderful thunderdone for about 30-40 minutes:

After we were done in Kourmonen, and a bit of a break, we continued in Kamela and finally dispatched that T2D kitey gang by aiming for the head of their little conga-line dragon. I sent that guy an eve-mail after the fleet, he did a wonderful job kiting us around for a while.
