AAR [Fleet] zap zap the kitchen sink

Post by Turlough Dominian »

+1/scout Victor Kaj / DonkeyPunch Udan also and remand so as +1 till we got 5-6 members back to stacmon. there was a 3rd also who helped victor as +1 but name slipping my mind sorry

2nd fc / Z0X Ambrye

started the fleet off in stacmon was not a bad turn out for my first fleet in near 3 years really happy with the turn out , we had 1 bc / 5 cruisers and a number of frigates

so prep work i spent a number of hours b4 the fleet making out a route as only being back to the game thought it a good idea to get some idea of the target area via dotlan / kill-board etc even scouted the full route twice today to get some feel for it and make safe spots.

so that done my first general path was from stacmon towards Nisuwa and to prittie much keep that general area if i had a small fleet, but had other plans if i had a massive turn out "just encase" so if i had more was going to then take us we bit further towards Ikoskio and for when things go really bad my escape plan was threw the small hi sec pocket in black rise and loop round via Iralaja back towards stacmon.

kill's
http://killfeed.eveuniversity.org/?a=ki ... _id=439231 33 mill retriever cought by our lovely Victor Kaj dscan'd by another member good team work .
http://killfeed.eveuniversity.org/?a=ki ... _id=439234 96 mill gnosis blown to bits by all

this 3rd kill was under our 2nd fc zox as i had to run off as i got cought on a gate by a armageddon/brutix/slepnir and 1 or two otehr things jumped in,
i told the fleet to scatter when i got cought managed to burn back to gate and escape barely so i went off reshiped and they killed
http://killfeed.eveuniversity.org/?a=ki ... _id=439242 60 mill buzzard well done

loss's
http://killfeed.eveuniversity.org/?a=ki ... _id=439233 2.7 mill
http://killfeed.eveuniversity.org/?a=ki ... _id=439243 2.1 mill
http://killfeed.eveuniversity.org/?a=ki ... _id=439244 38 mill
http://killfeed.eveuniversity.org/?a=ki ... _id=439241 4 mill
http://killfeed.eveuniversity.org/?a=ki ... _id=439237 31 mill
http://killfeed.eveuniversity.org/?a=ki ... _id=439236 17 mill
http://killfeed.eveuniversity.org/?a=ki ... _id=439238 5.8 mill

total: 100 mill lost and 189 mill killed

pro's:
we didn't all die, half the fleet survived and we escaped via my original escape route as going back the way we came wasn't much of an option at least 1-2 small gate camps slightly stronger than us and a group actively chasing us down, here is the https://dscan.me/2VG53i of what was chasing us and at this stage we where in no shape to engage.
I learned that next time to perhaps talk about gate mechanics in regards to being shot at by them.
we killed stuffs pew pew
we also had some brand new players who where permitted to ask as many questions and what i was unsure about others answered.
i had fun xD

con's:
i muddled my words once or twice. "im not going to even try pronounce that gate"
after we killed the gnosis one of our pilots was tackled by his buddie we tried to save him but spoting the tank being good on the enemy i called for scatter to save the rest of us as more was coming on grid.
em i perhaps got the fleet to hang about abit to much in safe spots , we even waited out 1 timer not sure if good or not but i chose to do so we didn't die in any safe spots tho when all together.

hopefully everyone had fun and thank you everyone who came . if i left anything out feel free to mention

Had a blast, only time I questioned what was going on was after the scatter call and we switched FC for a few minutes there we really seemed to have no real command or direction; it worked out though.
Died to gates for a second time today, clearly my own fault, and now I think I have a better understanding of the how and why. I even made it back to the fleet.
Learned a lot from my own questions and listening to others. All in all, 10/10 would fleet up again!

I got my first taste of being station camped!

It was an enjoyable fleet - good decisions from our FC I thought whilst I was there and the Gnosis/Sleipnir fight went well. Obviously rusty after a long time away but I thought our FC did things well. A more specific fleet comp may have helped as the kitchen sink doctorine limited our ability to enter plexes. The lack of logi wasn't the huge problem I thought it would be but for a large fleet it may have been.

From my point of view it was generally good - I warped in too close for the Gnosis fight and was way too close when the Sleipnir landed and he nearly got me but I managed to get free of the point and warp off. Warped to a station to repair and ended up with a BS sat on the undock. Logged for the night and extracted my ship this morning.

thanks for the kind words guys :D bribes have been sent

one thing ive been contemplating also is somehow explaining self preservation for new players like not having to wait to get my attention and ask can they escape, someone dieing sure work away do what u can to survive warp off if need be and warp back perfectly fine.

kind of like when i called for scatter and got 2nd fc to take over so i could burn back to gate and just barely survive.

Firstly I'd like to start by mentioning that Turlough Dominian Did a wonderful job as fleet commander. The only thing I have to say about this particular roam was (and he did explain this in his original post above more then once, and can tell that he didn't feel proud about it.. so I'm sure he's already going to work on what he could do alternatively when something like that happens in the future in order to help the fleet run a bit more smoothly) that about mid-way through he was being chased by two gate-campers and had expressed to everyone over comms that he wouldn't be able to outrun them. Also that unfortunately would not be able to re-group with us.

As soon as everyone heard him say this, and I can't exactly speak for everyone, but I myself felt a bit discouraged about the entire operation altogether and basically wanted to turn back and retire my duties as "Scout"/"Plus One" and head back to HSC campus. Even though he did have Z0X Ambrye take over as "Fleet Commander" [Member he referred to above in his report as his "2nd FC"] (and I'm sure I'm not the only one who felt this way about the fleet) I could tell that a lot of the guys who originally left with us at Stacmon had simply taken off without a word.

To me... I felt as if everyone else felt as if "...well I'm getting tired / We lost a fleet vs fleet engagement losing 4-5 ships / and more importantly if the FC can just abandon his duty why should I stick around." It turned out after Z0X Ambrye talked him into re-shipping and re-grouping with the rest of us, He did return and kind of re-established a sense of stability, control, and leadership. So I just felt it important to mention his unfortunate downfall as well as his triumphant return!!

I give him props though. Cause, even when things looked bleak and he was called on by his fellow allies he did return and made sure that the rest of the remaining fleet members were escorted safely back to Stac. I'd also like to point out that the system callouts were one of the smallest issues. I was able to understand every SS's You called so no worries there. On the plus side

1. He didn't spend a ton of time in each system searching for targets.

2. He was very calm over mumble comms and never getting too over excited or loud.

3. Clearly called out primary targets during the Fleet v. Fleet engagement!

4. And the best part of the whole fleet was everyone was on the same page with his directions/commands & call-outs.

I'm looking forward to joining more fleets that you are FCing in. You did fine, I had mad fun, and you definitely did better then I EVER would so don't take this post the wrong way I'm just letting you know how I felt so you understand and take the constructive criticism as a challenge and eventually turn it into a perfect fleet roam. I've been playing now for a little over 6 months now and still don't even know how to navigate the fleet window... lol stuff like create, move, change, basically any navigation involving the set-up of the fleet window (EX: Wing/Squad/Groups).

ah thanks man for the constructive feedback it's what these AAR's are all about to help those who where on the fleet and others who read them learn and get idea's and most importantly improve.

o ye with the swoping over to the 2nd fc I don't think any fc is really comfortable with doing so it truly does hurt my ego at least to have to make such a choice but the only choice i could have made at that point as i had to burn back to gate and find a station to repair in while you guys where off scattering and reforming under zox's command in the neighboring system.

at that stage i was really unsure how i was going to get threw that gate and reform with you guys but zox's suggestion of me jumping a few systems back and reshipping i did take and eventually cought up in a faster ship and get threw the gate which by that time had less people floating around it which was nice.

I have thought that perhaps I may put myself a few spare ships along the route for if i need to reship or even throw to a fleet member who die'd in battle.

the part 2 where you mention how calm i sounded should have heard me on the other side of comms i was cursing that battleship , i got pointed by a battle ship feels bad man xD

thanks again for the feedback I do like feedback its like questions the only wrong question is the one that isn't asked. but i do understand at times it can be hard to give feedback to someone you don't know very well yet as you never fully know how they may take it . that said going to run off and drop kick a kitten j/k
