[Solo] Rezda being an Aussie Idiot

Post by Rezda Nardieu »

I decided to take a Comet out for a play.

The first fit I tried cap was a real problem. I slid into a rail comet and almost had him down before my cap ran out.

I then overcompenstated with a weird hull tank fit, then lost to a kiting tristian ouside a plex because I burned out my web and prop mod.

Then lost to a daredevil I had absolutely no business sliding into (impatient Rezda at their finest)

Then I switched fits to a dual web with no scram which was a lot more successful.

I was a lot more patient picking fights and waiting in plexes and had a Maulus Navy Issue slide in to me.

I had to drop both webs right when he was in half structure because he was aligning out. I'm not sure if he thought I was plexing or was overconfident from a recent catalyst kill.

I then got caught/baited outside a novice plex by a punisher

I should have been checking D and slid the plex. I was chatting with another Uni bro and wasn't concentrating.

After this I reshipped into a dual web Hookbill and caught a Buzzard in a large plex.

He tried to engage me, I'm not sure what he was thinking. I wasn't sure if he had cloaky backup or had combat recons with him but I jumped to him anyway. This is where it paid off to be impatient.

Good
----

Had some fun fights.
Was getting better and picking fights.

Bad
---

I'm very impatient. I was not waiting long enough in plexes for fights.
Some of the choices of fights I made were really bad.
Burning out mods. I've really got to be careful with heat, especially with MWD.
I'm really bad at theory-crafting fits, and solo PvP (and the rest of Eve and most things in RL to be fair).

Part of picking your fights is knowing what your specific fit counters. MWD Comets are actually kinda niche in the warzone because you will face lots of ab-scram-web frigates. They will control you and, since you have blasters, you'll die to T1 scram kiters. I've killed a lot of mwd-blaster Comets that way with a Tormentor, for example. So mwd brawlers in general need to be pretty selective about what they fight. They excel at running down mwd kiters, but fail against a lot of AB-scram ships because of range control. That's also part of the reason why your AB-web-web fit worked better for you: that fit will control most frigates in the warzone due to high speed and dual webs. When thinking about fitting for solo pvp frigates, range control is often a more important consideration than tank and dps. Think about what range you need to be at to kill things and what combination of speed and tackle you need to get there. On reflection, you'll see that a mwd blaster Comet is really slow once it gets scrammed and webbed and simply can't reach the close orbit it wants to be at. Personally, I play around in Pyfa a lot, just looking at the different common fits and thinking about what you need to beat them. Also, read the links in Kelon's bio.

As for patience, you don't need it. I for one cannot bear camping a plex for longer than about two minutes. I pretty much only do it when there is a specific ship in system, maybe on dscan even, that I want to fight at a range of my choosing. So let's say I see something I can kill and which I think wants to fight me too, but it's not at a plex or if it is, I need to get the fight started at a specific range in order to win. Then I'll camp either on the acceleration gate or inside the plex at the ideal range for me and hope that the prey sees me on dscan and goes for it. Otherwise, I roam. I'd say that I attack about 80% of the time. Whether attacking or defending is better depends on the circumstances and the ships and fits. The major advantage to defending is choice of starting range, but if the attacker has good range control over the defender, he'll quickly overcome that. And the attacker always has the initiative. The worst thing about attacking is the danger of walking into traps. Punishers that aren't me are usually traps. Check zkill to see if they actually look like somebody who solos in a Punisher.
