[AAR] FLF Nullsec Roam - Starting Spooktober Speedily

Post by Tomlin »

We launched a new doctrine last month, FLF or Fast Little Frigates, and I wanted to try FCing it, so put a fleet on the calendar for today.

This doctrine is meant to be Uni's version of Shrinkwrapped that Fun Inc runs on Thursdays and Saturdays. It's all about speed. We warp fast and move around on grid fast so we can do hit and run tactics and choose the fights we want.

We formed up with 17 in Stacmon, did a bit of practice, warp speed checks, covering the new doctrine and how to fight with it, etc, and then took a Signal filament that landed us out in Fountain.

We begun our journey as all good fleets do, with an Ishtar kill, and for good measure we ate the MTU as well.

Unfortunately we did not have a bubbler, so we didn't get many pod kills this fleet.

Ishtar +228.2m
Mobile Tractor Unit +20.57m

We continued on a bit, and one of the scouts engaged a Taranis, so we came in and made short work of that.

(19:19:54) 9-VO0Q
Taranis +32.27m
Capsule +0.01m

At this point we started to see a response fleet forming. We also entered a system where somebody was robbing an ESS, so it's hard to say if they were there for us or the robber. One of our scouts tackled an Ishtar as the response fleet was jumping in, but I said let's go for it anyways since we're so speedy. We took down the Ishtar and then moved on. FC may have burnt out his scram while overheating to get to the Ishtar as well.

Ishtar +234.26m
Capsule +0.01m

At this point we decided to put some distance between us and the INIT response fleet, so we started burning around their loop towards the NPC stations. We had a few people in hull or with heat damage, so we docked up there to repair and then moved on quick. We found a Nidhoggur ratting in a pocket, but that was too big for us, so we continued on.

We were being followed by a Raptor for a while that gave up, and then a Sabre that couldn't accomplish much alone. We also had one extra +1 in our fleet as Tommy Yaken had burned his way over from Thera to join the fun.

We decided to head down to Delve since obviously we were all over INIT intel, but as we headed that way a scout caught an Ishtar a few jumps behind us, so we turned back and went and killed that, and its MTU.

Ishtar +266.29m
Mobile Tractor Unit +42.72m

At this point we had been back and forth over the same 1/4 of the map a few times and I'm sure the INIT folks were quite confused. A few more of them had gathered up while we killed that Ishtar, and one of our scouts was playing gate games with them. We went over to engage. Unfortunately they had multiple bubblers behind us, and we did lose one ship on a gate that got bubbled as we were all aligning and entering warp out. A scout jumped in to try to save them, but also went down.

Both ships were already tackled and dead, but I said we'd go back and take the fight, so I turned the fleet around. We warped over, landed in the bubbles, and killed the Sabre. Their kitchen sink fleet of mostly small fast stuff started pulling range from us and spreading out. We managed to catch a Flycatcher, but lost another Cruci Navy in the process. After some missed driveby scrams we started to regroup when a Retribution warped into the bubble, so we ate that quick. Aokara managed to tackle an ONI so we all went over and took that down, losing one more Crusadter in the process. I started getting primaried, so I bounced off grid and a few others took over calls. As I was landing back they all warped to a wreck next to a Jackdaw and took that down. Unfortunately this left me alone near a few enemy ships and I was tackled and killed. At this point, they jumped in a dozen Retributions or so, so 2IC called a scatter. Sadly we lost two of our logi during this as their ships were slower to align.

All in all a good fight that lasted a while and was a lot of fun to hold on the grid. Here's a BR version of it too: https://br.evetools.org/br/66fc5aa340c3d80012b822f3

We grouped everyone up, Shaemus was nice enough to give me his ship and pod express himself home, so I took the fleet through Pochven and we extracted to HS fairly quickly.

Finally we had two people who couldn't go to Caldari space and wanted to go back to Stacmon, so they opted to stay in Pochven and use a different wormhole. Unfortunately one of them got caught by instalockers on a station and blown up.

Overall

This was a fun fleet comp to try out; I'll definitely be flying it again. It was nice to be able to easily escape enemy fleets, and pick and choose our battles more. At the start we did move a bit slower than optimal as we all got used to it, but I think by the end of fleet we were a well oiled machine.

My own death hurt as it was just a bad warp-in. I probably should have waited as I heard the call for warping to the wreck near the Jackdaw. I should have just let them warp and then land on them after that, not before. But oh well, still a fun fight and ISK positive. And we got more than half of the fleet home alive.
