Kills and Losses

Looted a 120m ess, the enemies responded quick with a battleship gang. Unfortunately I didn't have enough time to refit my jams so we went thru the entire fight with mostly the wrong jams for what they had (not enough Gallente jammers). We could've killed them all if I was a bit quicker to set up.

A Paladin and Nightmare come to defend their 160m ess. We burn down the paladin almost instantly while keeping the Nightmare jammed and webbed the entire time. Nightmare goes down shortly after, we try bubbling his pod but his escape succubus saves his implants. The locals proceed to trickle in ships piecemea probably to save the battleships even after they died. The end result was a 8b feedfest (before abyssals).

6.7b worth of loot (including abyssals) was secured.

The Report raises so very many questions:
  • why would anyone defend a 120 million ISK Encounter Surveillance System with 1200 million ISK worth of ships? Did the pilots assign a 1:10 probability of defending the System? Are they so wealthy that ISK loss does not matter to them?
  • how do you "burn down a Paladin instantly"? Let's do some roleplay, I'm a Paladin and I want to be at a safe 100 km away from you. I have my Siege Module ready and waiting. Did the Paladin engage you at point blank range? Did I miss the part where you drained the Paladin of its capacitor and turned it into a floating hunk of metal? Did the Paladin not have a screen of ships, Frigates and Cruisers, to defend them? How did none of you get killed by the Paladin?
  • I believe you to be Xyrin Bacard, a person who passionately advocated for roaming Fleets to take on more support roles then just a Logistician and a Scout. Could you detail how these extra support roles contributed to both of these encounters? How do you think the fights would play out differently if they weren't present?
Whatever the answers might be, congratulations for seizing the opportunity! :)

Did the Paladin engage you at point blank range?
ESS pockets are dead space - you warp through a gate to then bank, and end up in the center of a scram effect. Yes, anyone coming in after you are already on grid, will come in at a known point.

Apparently, they don't make Paladins the way they used to. :D haahahahahahah
I'm still unsure as to how they failed to kill any one of your Polarized, 0 resistance, ships. Then again, they did trickle in one by one.

The group in Pure Blind defended their relatively modest ESS with a fleet of Battleships, (likely) because they expected to not lose any more than that ESS amount and/or evaluated that they would overall come up positive in the fight. The more they take, the higher the chance that they lose little to nothing after all.

I think the Paladin got a single rep cycle off. We kill Paladins quite regularly. Large Armor repairer take ~12 seconds to actually get a charge off so fits with no buffer die very easily to high DPS comps like ours. Also our polarized Gnosis fits, while not having resists, can still tank a reasonable amount due to sheer buffer.

It definitely was a fantastic experience and made me realise the possibility of exciting content in Null Sec. Thanks to Xyrin and Laurence for the original idea of the setup. I'm looking forward to joining similar fleets in the future.
