Finding all modules for new ship

Hi all -

I need to fit out my new ship after I was shot down. How do you typically do this from a logistics perspective in the most price but also time effective way? Do you search through Marketer etc. for where you would get modules at a relatively low price and then travel all around the galaxy to collect these? Or do you go to one central place where you find everything at a reasonable price?

Thanks for your help!

Re: Finding all modules for new ship

Where there is high trade volume, sell prices will naturally fall and buy prices will naturally rise, due to supply/demand effects.

This makes trading at major trade hubs a good path.

The primary hub, is in Jita, in The Forge region. Prices at this location are considered the pricing standard in EVe.

Other major trade hubs, by “System (Region)”

Amarr (Domain)
Dodixie (Sinq Laison )
Hek (Metropolis)
Rens (Heimatar)

Of course use caution when visiting - as lots of traffic means lots of high sec piracy, and higher chance of encounter war targets. It is recommended to use an Alt on Uni characters, while at war, to visit these locations.

Because markets are regional, this narrows any price lookups down to a couple of regions. Start with The Forge.

On the matter of flying all over: while you are doing so, you aren’t doing other things. This is called Opportunity Cost (taking on an opportunity - like traveling to purchase something - costs you what you could have been doing with that time/resource instead). It’s generally not worth traveling all over the cluster to save a handful of ISK.

Many thanks for you quick response this makes perfect sense. I am travelling now to Dioxide as this is the nearest market and also seems to be relatively safe at this point in time.

Re: Finding all modules for new ship

The most cost efficient way to solve this problem of:

  • finding all the modules you need
  • not paying a huge markup on those mods in a local market
  • not losing lots of time traveling back and forth between where you live and the nearest hub
  • not running the risk of getting exploded by a war target sitting on the undock of that hub

is to use the EUNI Campus Shipping Service: https://forum.eveuniversity.org/viewtopic.php?f=293&t=111744. You buy lots of stuff for your favourite ship fits, contract them to the shipping service and they will haul them to wherever you live, provided that it's in or near one of the EUNI campuses. And best of all: it's free!

Re: Finding all modules for new ship

The other thing that people haven't mentioned is, depending on your urgency, you could put up buy orders at your nearest trade hub (or if you are looking for NPC drop item - meta 1-4 variants - then your nearest mission hub).

This will not fil instantly, may need to be maintained, but may also drop the price of what you are looking for (this can be an especially useful technique when looking to fit several of the same ship for pvp practice)
