A quick question about hacking and fitting.

So I'm training up archaeology and hacking to level five I think. They're at level four right now. My question relates to ship fittings for exploration. I am fitting my rigs and there are rigs that improve data and relic analyzers but there are also rigs that improve probe strength and speed. Should I be going for improvements to probe strength and speed or my hacking abilities? I think all my scanning abilities are at level 4 atm.

Re: A quick question about hacking and fitting.

Hi,

since you are currently training into T2 analyzers and also scanning a system down usually takes more time than hacking one or two sites, I would guess that scanning rigs are more helpful.

You could of course try to use no rigs on the first trip or two and check yourself...

I'm still a newbro, but it seems you can cloak while scanning (I think?), so having your scanning take a little longer is okay. I would personally boost hacking, since you can get high-level rats in some data sites that will one-shot your heron if your too slow. (Not that I have any personal experience with that...)

Hi,

not quite - if you know your sites, this is not really a problem - if you leave Sleeper Caches, Sleeper sites and Ghost sites alone, you are going to be safe - Drone Data Sites have some chance to spawn a few frigs if you fail a hacking attempt but these can be easily dispatched if you have some drones at hand like in a T1 explo frig or an Astero.

And yes, you can and should cloak while scanning.

Re: A quick question about hacking and fitting.

I find this to be a personal choice. I personally really hate failing the hacks when I know there is a lot of loot there. Furthermore, as someone said, you are more exposed to risk when scanning as you can’t clock. While you can avoid NPCs there is always a risk of PvP.

I did invested a bunch in hacking and scanning and I *feel* that hacking is easier after that. It is a bit more difficult for me to notice the benefit with scanning.

As someone mentioned I would try both, in worst case you are only loosing the cost of rigs.

Re: A quick question about hacking and fitting.

With scanning, after a certain point the improvement just makes you faster.
If your hacking or archaeology skills are not high enough, you will not be able to get the loot from a lot of sites, which will be very frustrating.
I would prioritize them over scanning, but level 4 should be enough for most sites.
