Interested in FW

I know the Uni doesn't participate in FW, so I was considering trying it with my Gallante alt. I don't have any pvp experience so I was wondering if FW is the best way to get started. How much isk would I need to get started? I don't want to lose a ton of money but I know I will lose ships frequently at the beginning. Is it better to just find pvp within the Uni first and then stock up some isk to fund FW on my alt?

Thanks.

Re: Interested in FW

Hi Sweet Pain,

Just to be clear, the reason you're interested in FW is for the PvP aspects?

While the Uni doesn't participate in FW itself, the FW complexes on low sec are open to anyone, and a lot of what goes in the Low Sec campus is about fighting in those places, both with FW participants and other neutrals like ourselves. Basically in terms of PvP there's nothing really in FW which you are missing out on by being in Uni. Plenty of us find our entertainment doing solo or small gang PvP with and against the FW guys, and there are plenty of opportunities to learn about PvP.

The thing which FW offers which is not accessible to neutrals is getting "paid" in LP for killing people, or capturing the conplexes. Effectively being part of FW is a way to partially fund your PvP habit which isn't accessible to neutrals like the Uni.

So, if you want to learn PvP and have some funding already, why not do it on your main with the Uni?

If you're worried about funding then FW could potentially offer some advantages and let your alt fund his way.

Re: Interested in FW

Does that mean the LSC and NSC are more pvp focused than the HSC? If so, I have a Kestrel near the LSC I would really like to try in pvp. But being so inexperienced, it would be nice have someone there to help me out.

Re: Interested in FW

I cant speak for NSC having never visited, but LSC is very PvP focused. That's not to say folks dont rat, or do exploration to pay the bills, but the main activity for most people tends to be fighting in FW space yes

If I'm online when you are, feel free to give me a shout, or ask in LSC chat if anyone is out roaming, happy to show you around!

Re: Interested in FW

The low sec campus as well as the null sec campus are both about pvp.

Low sec is a better place if:
- you dont like bubbles
- you prefer solo, micro, small gang pvp over fleet battles (there are fleetbattles too, but less so than in 0).
- you fly a more expensive pod and want to get away with it if your ship dies
- you dont care that much about non pvp related income (worse rats, asteroids, planets, etc. in low than 0)

0 sec is a better place if:
- you dont like gate guns
- you think bubbles are fun
- you like to kill pods but dont like to receive a security loss for them
- you like bigger fleets (there are solo, micro, small gangs too, but less so than in low sec).
- you dont care about losing your pod
- you care about non pvp related income too (better rats, better asteroids, better PI, etc. in 0 than low )

If you want to check them out just get in the standing fleet of either campus (there is usually one up) and ask for someone to escort you there. Usually people in both places welcome new players and are happy to assist you, train you, do stuff with you. So just say Hello =)

edit:
oh and i forgot. The low sec campus actually is located within a faction warfare zone ^_^
