A SHARED CAN ICE MINING FLEET
Image

Fleet form-up: 21:00 Friday, 25 November 2022
Location in Tolle IV - Caldari Business Tribunal. With a travel fleet at 20:30 from Stacmon - The Quad to Tolle.
Comms: Mining Lounge in Mumble
Ship Doctrine: Any mining ship that can ice mine
Fleet: Ice Mining Shared Can
FC: Anidien Dallacort

Roles Needed:

Anyone that would like to contribute to Boosting (Orcas) or Tractoring (Preferably a Noctis) - please get in touch with me ahead of time

We will be mining Ice in the Evershore Region. If there are no Ice belts up during the scheduled start time we will wait until respawns. This will be a shared can.

What is a shared can? A shared can mining event is a mining fleet that works together to mine, boost, and haul. Working together is more productive than working individually, so the overall outcome is more profitable. All ice that is mined is consolidated and sold to the Mining buyback service. Once sold (usually within 48 hours), payments are distributed to the members of the mining fleet based on their participation time. Since you are paid for your time (and not based on the ship you use), this can be a very profitable event for pilots who may not yet have the skills or ships to mine efficiently.

The mechanics of how to participate in the fleet will be explained by the fleet commander before the event in the Mining Lounge Mumble channel (it's pretty easy, actually). If you show up late, be sure to type "LASERS ON xx: yy" in fleet chat indicating the time you started mining so you can get paid accurately.

In all we ran for around five non-continuous hours. At first, the belt that JohnPlayerNotSpecial lined up for us to spawn just in time for our event - didn't end up behaving (and ended up being 2.5 hours late!). We mined the remnants of the belt in Carirgnottin, then headed over to Brapille to get the belt just as it was being finished off.

With two other belts only around 45 minutes from their theoretical spawn time - we took a break. Finally, Antollare spawned - and we converged on it and ended up clearing it out.

Several members had to leave at that point (we were straddling US and EU timezones afterall), and the remaining fleet headed over to Tolle, where we ended up clearing that belt too.

In the end, we mined just under 5,000 blocks of Blue Ice, worth a bit more than 835 million ISK. Members that were there for the full event ended up with around 100 million ISK each in their pockets.

Additionally, JohnPlayerNotSpecial (ask not what the Events department can do for you - ask what the Events department is!) donated a slate of prizes, which were randomly awarded to the attendees of the Shared Can:

kamaTayun - Praxis
Guardian FiveFive - Maelstrom Dawn of Liberation SKIN
Alyxandera Steele - Scorpion Forward 4-4 SKIN
Robert Lowe - Stabber Hunter's Quiver SKIN
Qesta Tral - Typhoon Hunger's Quiver SKIN
Oliver Aurelius - Men's Interstellar Convergence T-Shirt
Ynnos Fyrestrike - Women's Interstellar Convergence T-Shirt

Thank you to all who came out, thank you JPNS for the prizes, the boosts, and the preparation of Antollare, and I hope to see you all again!
