Announcement for the Cruiser Fight Club in November. Be there and don´t miss your chance to fight pre-arranged 1v1 fights in Tech 1 cruisers. Fights will be to 25% structure by default, so you (probably) won't lose your ship(s). After each set of fights we will debrief and discuss what happened, to maximise learning.
Cruiser duels are rarer in the wild than frigate duels, but they do happen. Cruisers present interesting fitting challenges, and since cruiser combat is a bit slower than frigate combat, cruiser fighting lets you observe how a battle works more easily.
Key details:
What: friendly 1v1 cruiser duels
When: Wednesday 02 November, 19:30 EVE Time
Where: Slays (1 jump from Stacmon)
Comms: Delta; Delta and Echo if we get enough participants that it's worth running eight fights parallel rather than four
Duration: 2 hours scheduled
Format
- Whichever ship enters 25% structure first loses; pilots can fight to the death by prior agreement
- Pilots may choose to warp off if their opponent isn't holding tackle on them, and this counts as a draw
- Pilots may surrender at any time, and pilots are obliged to respect surrenders
- Pilots may agree a draw at any time but both pilots have to agree for it to count
- The umpire may declare a draw if a fight has continued for an unreasonable amount of time and the fight has entered a static state
Full rules follow in the next post, but the key rules are:
- Base Tech 1 cruisers from the four main NPC empires only
- Tech 1 and meta modules and rigs only, except that you can use a Tech 2 Damage Control
- Base Tech 1 ammunition, drones, and charges only
- No combat drugs
- No combat implants, including powergrid/cpu implants (and please bring a clean clone: podding is forbidden, but accidents can happen)
A few notes that might be useful:
- cruisers present a more ramified set of tactical and fitting options than frigates
- note in particular the general presence of dronebays
- note that two of the EWAR cruisers, the Bellicose and Arbitrator, are solo-viable
- MWDs and 'dualprop' (MWD plus afterburner) configs are both more common for solo cruisers than for lowsec solo frigates
- triple-check that you have included ammunition, drones, cap boosters &c in any fit before buying and shipping it
And also some useful links:
- The CORE class on fitting
- Rules of thumb for fitting from the wiki
- Worked example of fitting choices from the wiki (this is for a ship to fly as part of a doctrine, but many of the modes of thinking transfer across)
- zKillboard: if you look through lots of kills and losses for a particular cruiser on here (e.g. here is solo activity for the Bellicose) you will begin to get a sense for what the 'meta' fits popular right now for that ship are—though you need not play into the meta if you don't want to!
- An extremely long video discussion of the basics of fitting across the full range of slots
Whatever you fit, remember that any solo PvP ship must have ways to (1) tackle, (2) deal damage and (3) avoid or tank damage.
Let's get out there and smash up some cruisers in the name of fun and education!
