Univision Song Contest - 7 May 2022 20.00

Post by Laura Karpinski »

My favourite time of year is approaching. That's right, it's EUROVISION!!!

Time to celebrate the greatest, cheesiest night in the European calendar with fellow pilots. If you love Eurovision, come along and party. If you have never heard of or watched Eurovision, come along and learn. If you hate Eurovision, you have my sympathies for your awful joyless life.

I'm hosting the Univision Song Contest. Basically I'll show you some absolute Eurovision bangers and you'll have a score card. At the end of the night we'll discover which is EVE University's favourite Eurovision song.

Time: 20.00 EVE time
Date: 7 May 2022 (ONE WEEK before the Eurovision finale - Hype!!)
Place: Mumble and Discord

The small print:

- No singing involved! I mean you can sing if you want, but we won't be keying up for it
- May contain epic sax guy
- I'll be playing classic Eurovision songs, not this years' entries. So no worries about spoilers
- Yes I know the US has its own thing. Congrats hunnies, and I'm sure you'll try super hard, but Eurovision is better

One of the best Eurovision songs, that would have surely won if Eurovision would have taken place in 2020 ...

If you haven't seen the netflix movie "Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga" - it's totally worth it!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qjuphuG3ndw <- not a real Eurovision song, but damn, it's good.

Thanks everyone for coming. And the results are... (drumroll please):

The WINNER of the Univision Song Contest 2022 is.......

Kate Miller-Heidke - Zero Gravity (Australia): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eo5H62m ... ongContest

A surprise winner, since she did not win the Eurovision Song Contest itself. But check her out of that bendy pole, what an absolute QUEEEEEEN, a worthy winner. Here's a fascinating article about her and the controversy surrounding Eurovision 2019: https://www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radi ... obal-stage

This year NOBODY got "nil points" (there were no British entries ahem). If you're interested in the order the songs came in the results, it was as follows:

1 - 2019 - Kate Miller-Heidke - Zero Gravity (Australia)
2 - 2017 - Salvador Sobral - Amar Pelos Dois (Portugal)
3 - 2013 - Emmelie De Forest - Only Teardrops (Denmark)
4 - 2010 - Sunstroke Project & Olia Tira - Run Away (Moldova)
5 - 2014 - Conchita Wurst - Rise Like a Phoenix (Austria)
6 - 2018 - Netta - Toy (Israel)
7 - 2007 - Verka Serduchka - Dancing Lasha Tumbai (Ukraine)
8 - 2010 - Lena - Satellite (Germany)
9 - 2012 - Loreen - Euphoria (Sweden)
10 - 2019 - Duncan Laurence - Arcade (Netherlands)
11 - 2021 - Måneskin - Zitti E Buoni (Italy)
12 - 2018 - DoReDoS - My Lucky Day (Moldova)
13 - 2009 - Alexander Rybak - Fairytale (Norway)
14 - 2015 - Måns Zelmerlöw - Heroes (Sweden)
15 - 2010 - Jessy Matador - Allez Ola Olé (France)

Thanks to everyone for coming, even Mikey who hated everything. And remember to watch Eurovision! Grand Final is next week, go go gooooo. And watch "Eurovision: Fire Saga" please.
