Re: Anime

I loved the Eden of the East concept, not so much the execution. IMHO it should have been a 24 ep series.

Regarding Saikano, I know you are messed up dude, I said that you might end up as SAD messed up guy after watching it :P

So, have you watched the classics, like Evangelion (the original series and movies), Cowboy Beebop and its weird awesome rap-samurai brother Samurai Champloo, or the original Fullmetal Alchemist, also the original Hellsing...

You could also like Gantz because of the surprise sex and the messed up storyline. Sadly the ending was crap.

If you haven't already I would watch the Eden of the East movies. They pick up a little after the series ended and might as well be the second season. However, only one movie was been released on DVD/Blu-Ray, so you'll have to wait a while on the second one. The movie itself doesn't really feel like a movie so much as 6 episodes of a series. I don't understand why they didn't just turn it into a season 2.

I haven't watched Evangelion mostly because I can't stand stuff not made on computers :( but I will download the new movies maybe.
Cowboy Bebop is awesome
I watched FMA to ep 47 or 48 and then got pissed at how stupid it had gotten and so I stopped watching :)
I haven't watched hellsing but I just read the description and will try it.

Also surprise butt sex is best sex

Re: Anime

Hey there!

I've seen that

Crest of the Stars (Seikai no Monshō)
Battle Flag of the Stars I & II (Seikai no Senki)

have not been mentioned yet. They belong to my alltime favs.

"Record of Lodoss War" is a classic.
"Ah My Goddess" is just a 6 parter but was funny
"Chobits"
"Full Metal Panic" was already stated but yes, that was a fun one to watch as well.

Yeah, I haven't seen the Eden movies yet, I guess I'm still a bit dissapointed with the series -.-

Amitab, Oh! my goddess! (Aa! Megami-sama) has also a more recent 24 ep series that was followed by a 22 ep sequel and a 2 eps special... ;)

These are a good watch, and probably appeal to the spaceship-related interests of some of Eve's playerbase :)

Not sure I'd say they were particular favourites of mine, but I don't really have any taste, so.

Re: Anime

Guess I'll throw in my 0.02ISK... Although it's hard to think of things that haven't already been covered. Apologies in advance for the wall of text and crappy descriptions. My formatting-fu is not strong.

Kurau ~ Phanton Memory -
one I really enjoyed, and that seemingly nobody has heard of. [sci-fi, action]

Kara no Koyoukai OVA series -
a must for anyone who loves either TypeMoon or incredible animation or both. [fantasy, modern, action]

Rebuild of Evangelion -
(so far 1.0 and 2.0 (out of 4) are out; the extended releases are 1.11 and 2.22) is a must-watch, even if you haven't seen the original series, although honestly it's worth watching the original TV series, then the End of Evangelion movie, THEN Rebuild. [non-silly-mecha]

Ghost in the Shell -
especially the 2 Stand Alone Complex TV series and the Stand Alone Complex movie are so worth it. [sci-fi, action]

Black Lagoon -
(good news - a third OVA series will be coming out in September!) really isn't overrated. It deserves all the praise it gets, in my opinion. [yarr]

Hellsing Ultimate OVA series -
if you liked the TV series, you'll -love- this. [action, vampires, crazy priests, explosions and gore]

Utawarerumono -
Metal fans are apparently great weapons. [godzilla. No, not really. fantasy, feudal war]

Scrapped Princess -
another one that some people miss. Spoiler tags suck on this forum. [fantasy, sci-fi]

Spice and Wolf -
although the second season was a bit of a letdown. [character, drama]

To Aru Majutsu no Index -
it starts strong but the ending was a bit of a letdown. Also it's spinoff, To Aru Kagaku no Railgun, on average I think better but only because Index took such a nosedive. [sci-fi/fantasy, action, light comedy]

Denpa Teki na Kanojo -
an OVA series really worth checking out. It's by the same author as Kurenai (which isn't bad, if you can survive the mind-breaking OP). [drama, action, yandere (well, kinda)]

Amatsuki -
maybe one day we'll even get a second season where it actually finishes! (hah, not) [action, sci-fi background but fantasy]

.hack//sign -
another one with a mind-breaking OP but also worth it (again, in my opinion). [action, sci-fi background but fantasy]

Moyashimon -
Doesn't get much weirder than this, as far as plot goes. Main character can see bacteria/microbes. [drama, light comedy]

Shigofumi -
well worth it if you enjoy darker themes (not DARK, just dark). [drama, action]

Hibane Renmei -
another one with a sort of similar mood to Shigofumi. But quite possibly better. [slice of life, drama]

Baccano! -
well worth it again. The first few episodes will be "Huh? Who? I can't keep up with this!" but it all falls into place. Durarara! is another series in the same veign (same studio). [action, drama, character development+]

Well, I think I'll leave it at that for now. CCP should've scheduled longer downtime so I could sleep.

Re: Anime

I'm surprised, given the tendency of Eve players to be patient types who enjoy space opera, that so far no one's mentioned Boring Germans in Space in this thread.

I actually enjoyed LoGH more than what I expected, given how old it is (lol80'sanime) and how long it is. It's in fact, MUCH better than what you realize at first.

But you got to enjoy strategy and mind games to bear it.

In other news, I just finished Kara no Kyoukai. Awesome anime, no matter how you see it. Awesome animation, pretty much one of the best backgrounds and lighting I have seen, engaging story with great characters, lots of violence, gore and blood, ... but you got to watch it to the end to realize that the story is not about violence and supernatural stuff

I was like /o\

Re: Anime

If you liked Robotech can i suggest you check out the Japanese origin shows. most importantly Macross. Super Dimension Fortress: Macross as the original part was called.
Its almost as old as Gundam and spawned a fair few off shoots. Macross II was poor mind. Last space battle is good though...
Macross Plus is a classic in both OVA (4 episodes) and movie forms.
Macross Zero is a prequel/side story. 0 being the term for side stories etc...
Macross Frontier moves the story well into the future but still manages to fit in the original SDF Macross or a sister ship rather. :)

As far as Gundam, have you checked out Gundam 00? Gundam Unicorn is the newest to come out. At least as a region 2 release...

Re: Anime

*cracks fingers* How'd i miss this thread?

Riiight, first off, i'll get the fiancés recommendations out the way, in other words, this is Shojo mainly, (lit. aimed at older teen girls) although it tends to be more comedy she watches:

Amagami SS - Currently airing, it's based from a PS2 video game, the season is split into lots of mini-stories which don't run side by side, it follows Junichi, a high schooler who had his heart broken by a girl who stood him up on Christmas Eve, each arc of the story will revolve around him finding his new lease for love again.

Toradora - If you've seen Shakugan no Shana or Zero no Tsukaima, then the lead female in this (Taiga) will instantly be recognisable, since she is basically Shana and Louise from those series, even with the same voice actor, yet again, but despite that, it's a superb comedy romance series. Revolving around the life of Ryuji Takasu, who looks like a delinquent thanks to his eyes, inherited from his Yakuza father, as such he is avoided at school by many except those who know who he really is, (an OCD cleaner and self-sufficient student). And his meeting with Taiga Aisaka, known as the palmtop tiger...basically because she's tiny but utterly mental. Highly worth a watch, with very varied characters who all have superb chemistry.

Now i've just finished watching the new Fullmetal Alchemist series (Brotherhood), and honestly, i much preferred it over the original. I appreciate how the story splits from the manga in the first one, but the new one sticks to the manga pretty much 100%. And i love the manga, simple. If you were to try and watch it after viewing the first series, i'd say give it time, because of course it begins with pretty much the same story as the first (aside from the very first episode), but really cranks up the storyline the further you get in. I know a lot of people stopped watching it after 5 or 6 episodes because it was the same story as the first up to that point.

But the on thing that i cannot recommend enough is Death Note, probably the only anime which constantly sent shivers up my spine with it's story, not in a creepy horror way, but the intelligence behind it, i owned all the manga soon after it was getting released...and i had to lock them away since i was enjoying the anime way too much to know about the story beforehand. If you like drama and crime...or action...murder...the paranormal...etc, this is an epic to watch (just don't watch the live action movies for the love of Amarr...)

Re: Anime

Zedah Zoid wrote:Mild necro perhaps but I shall brave it.

I just started watching a series called "Planetes" that so far(5 episodes in) is pretty good. Funny, some decent hard sci-fi, fairly likable characters for the most part. Thumbs up. It's about a crew of people that are tasked with removing junk from earth orbit but that's really just a backdrop for the story telling. Not every episode is "Run out and pick this thing up before it crashes into this other thing!". I think I'll be watching the rest of it.

Quoting this, just to say Planetes is quite possibly my favourite anime ever, absolutely brilliant, and is perfect for those interested in space and sci-fi (which i'm guessing is the right place to say this!), but more of the slice-of-life and believable stuff (there is still action, but not ridiculous space mechs aka Gundam). A must watch if ever there was one
