This generally sounds about right. I didn't personally participate in the E-UNI war, except to get alphaed by a pack of sebo'ed thrashers off the Hek undock (
http://rvbeve.com/red/?a=kill_detail&kll_id=217092), since that was a bad week for my freetime, but I can say that the RvB membership seemed pretty happy about the war and all the GoodFights(tm) we had.
I haven't listened to the pod-cast, but I can probably highlight a few of the key differences between the two groups that might not be apparent to someone who had not been in both. Note that these points pertain to normal operations, not the war specifically, but then again, normal operations tends to show what you have experience with.
Most E-UNI fleets tend to be more organizedRvB fleets are doing well to have balanced squads with SCs in the role. Even if you have an SC, its pretty rare that they're doing anything besides boosting the squad and I don't know the last time I saw a squad channel for anything. A lot of this has to do with the RvB fleetmembers wanting to fight, not wait around.
Most RvB fleets tend to see more actionWe're not hunting pirates or faildec wartargets; we intentionally live in a target-rich environment with one or both sides moving fleets around and camping gates. Additionally, the FCs of the standing fleets are highly encouraged to use the RvB FC channel to coordinate fights, so that neither side spends more time than necessary waiting around.
E-UNI fleets are often bigger in numbersThis is partly due to the fact that RvB is two warring corps and there is some effort made to balance the sides. Also, I haven't checked the numbers, but I'm pretty sure that even after some of the login splash banners, E-UNI is still significantly bigger than both Red and Blue combined.
E-UNI fleets tend to have larger shipsRvB fights are mostly T1 Cruiser and below, with many of them being dessie and below. On a normal night, we don't normally roll with BSs and BCs, since they get really expensive and make it harder to balance the fights. We do pull them out from time to time, but this means that RvB probably has more experience with small ships, which E-UNI may have more consistant experience with larger ships.
RvB fleets tend to take more risksAs a group, we really try not to worry too much about isk ratios and killboards. They still get some attention, but the leadership makes it very clear that they expect frequent, mostly fair fights, not one-sided curbstompings. Given the choice between retreating from greater odds or just leeroying the fleet, most of our FCs will leeroy the fleet with the blessing of the members. This is another reason why a lot of folks only fly frigs and dessies.
E-UNI fleets tend to have better scoutsMost RvB fights happen in four neighboring systems and the FCs are often talking to each other, so the need for scouting is pretty minimal. That's not to say we don't scout, but that it mostly consists of one or two t1 frigs jumping around to gate BMs and either d-scanning or counting while aligned on grid.
RvB fleets *may* have better target callingI've been out of the uni for a long time, so I don't know the current state of things, but my guess here is that due to the different type of fights we get on a daily basis, RvB FCs *might* be better at calling a large fleetfight, since we do 30v30 fights on almost an hourly basis. On the other hand, E-UNI has quite a few FCs who have been around for MUCH longer than a lot of RvB FCs. so this may be moot in many situations.
