Maybe they'll let our avatars get into spacesuits with jetpacks! Then we can have WiS (Walking in Space).

I am all for super-realistic environments and lifelike immersion, but do we really need emulated flatulence within enclosed spaces as in stations?

Trust me, we don't take it seriously. You do realize half of Incarna was using the EVE population as a testing ground for World of Darkness? And I'm beginning to wonder how much CCP is still interested in World of Darkness, since I believe the Atlanta office was supposed to be for that game, but they laid off a bunch of the Atlanta office workers.

I thought Incarna was great, but then I came to realize it was a terrible expansion, since it really didn't give you anything. It gave you a lot of small changes, but nothing terrifically important. With the technology at hand, they were only able to release Minmatar quarters, which give you no impression of the other quarters, and they couldn't quite implement the stations part of it. You basically got your tiny little spaceapartment and that's it. Keep in mind, that a lot of computers really took a shock from processing the captain's quarters. I believe Turhan threw up a thread about it at one point.

I took this from Crucible: CCP is finishing up the rest of the captain's quarters so there are other things to look at. They are ironing out any small scale glitches with the CQs, but anybody else is working on the space part of the game. CCP has pretty much abandoned Walking in Stations.

Most players don't take it seriously. I for one could not care less about it.

Incarna was one of the reasons CCP got into so many troubles with the playerbase a few months ago, so I doubt they are very eager to push it forward at the same speed.

It will come for sure, but don't hold your breath

Most of the trouble came from the micro-transactions and the Captain's Quarters was really hard on video cards. Not the fact there were now avatars we could walk around with.

I am pretty confident we will have WiS about the time DUST 514 launches.

Re: Walking in stations

WiS is definitely something that needs to be done for the long term health of the game - but it was done at the expensive FiS for :18 months:

Which, along with the bone-headed NEX pricing, the Greed is Good "Fearless" newsletter, and the frustration because only 1 CQ shipped and there was no shared areas inside the station is why we ended up with the riots.

I think we'll see, not WiS first, but those exploration environments where you dock, exit your ship and explore a ruin on foot. Not sure how they'll do station interiors, I think that's still a ways off. The exploration environments can be instanced and would only have a few players at the same time.

Re: Walking in stations

When Dust 514 comes out, there will be the "common room" that they have before battles (or so they say). Beyond that, I don't think there will be much for at least a year, and more likely two. I think we'll see WiS happen as the CCP Atlanta team that's working on WoD develops more assets and framework, and those assets get ported over to EVE.

The next part of avatars will most certainly be the ability to play dressup with the corpses in your hangar. :pinkiecrazy:

Re: Walking in stations

WiS is still something I would like to see, especially with DUST 514 just around the corner. Imagine being able to see face to face the grunts we will hire on the ground. I think that would be a pretty epic interaction.

They didn't shelve walking in space, however they did "refocus" the team to make sure spaceships are taken care of.

Ooooh, that's so... so.... so... :)

But really I would love to see more WIS including bars, gaming rooms, exploration - a lot of stuff. But only if a new team will be hired to do the job. Too many things in FIS are just crying for help to divert resources to WIS.

This. WiS is a cool idea, and fully fleshed out will add a great layer to an already great game. The fact is though that too much needs to be done with the core game of FiS. For example, at fanfest they mentioned that they want to redo POSs so its more modular and you can create your "home" in space. Now add WiS to that, and you can get some great content. Flesh out Dust and the combat and get something like that into Eve with WiS. Most importantly fix all the problems with FiS such as faction warfare, mining, Sov warfare, ship balancing, the UI, the clickfest that is industry, the corp interface, ect...

What I don't want is more meaningless gameplay. Who really cares if you can go into a bar in game if that's all you can do? Sure, it would be cool for a day or two, just like the first CQ was when you first stepped into it; but the cool factor doesn't last long at all. CCP seems to know all this and in the future we'll get some good gameplay out of WiS, but that's probably a couple of years off. They're doing what they need to be doing, focusing on spaceships, and making spaceships explode.
