And here's the AAR from someone who was there:

Several of us were online and thinking it was going to be a slow new years eve. [Omitted stuff about blowing up a POS as substitute fireworks]

What we didn't realize, perhaps from too much time in pods, is that the fireworks start at midnight, the grand finale was yet to come.

After 3 long minutes looting stront from the can left by the hapless Justine Williams, our scout Tlak Chilk called the location of a 90 man Goon & Friends frigate gang, just 4 jumps away.

With the potential for us to reship and prepare in 31-MLU, we didn't have to engage with the pilots and ships we had. Three of us up-shipped into Disco-Battleships, whose large tank and high DPS, combined with no need to lock targets, is the answer to any un-prepared frigate gang. While tough, they can also be very cap-hungry, and the potential for friendly fire is extreme. However, our desire to receive a huge boost to our Killboard stats blinded us to the risks.
