Question about Data vs. Relic Sites

Hi everyone,
I have a question on the difference between these two sites: so far in high-sec, it seems that data sites are only worth doing as I rarely get more than 200k isk for a relic site. Am I doing something wrong at these relic sites? I go for the mini-cans in this order: data, parts, materials, and scrap. Is this the "wrong order" for a relic site?

Thanks!

It's generally the wrong order for both kinds of site, and what you really want to be doing is cargo scanning before you hack and collecting cans accordingly. Almost everything of value in a Relic site will be in the parts and materials cans. Only go for data if your cargo scan comes up with a skill book or blueprint.

Re: Question about Data vs. Relic Sites

Cargo scan the containers before you hack them to see what is inside.

For Data sites, the priority is:

  • Data cans if there is a valuable BPC, otherwise ignore them
  • Parts cans
  • Everything else
For Relic sites, the priority is:

  • Data cans if there is a valuable BPC, otherwise ignore them
  • Parts and Materials cans
  • Everything else

You can get more detailed about it, but the above works as a general rule.

Generally, the value of the loot in data sites seems to be constant (with sec status of the system), while the salvage stuff found in relic sites gets more valuable with descreasing sec status. This agrees with your observation that relic sites are not that profitable in high sec. So, if you go to low, null or wormhole space relic sites can be quite profitable.

Re: Question about Data vs. Relic Sites

Thanks for all the replies! :D I will definitely go and buy a cargo scanner as soon as I can.
